SCHLUMBERGER LEGACY REIMAGINED

Few designers have left as distinctive a mark on Tiffany & Co. as Jean Schlumberger. Born in 1907 to a prominent textile‑manufacturing family in Alsace, France, Schlumberger’s formative exposure to textile structures—their weaves, braids and dimensional qualities—profoundly influenced his artistic vocabulary. This fascination with texture and form finds eloquent reinterpretation in the Rope Watch design.

During his three‑decade tenure at Tiffany & Co. beginning in 1956, Schlumberger created some of the maison’s most distinctive and enduring designs. His work garnered significant recognition, including the Fashion Critics’ Coty Award in 1958, establishing him as the first jewellery designer to receive this distinction. The French government further acknowledged his contributions by naming him a Chevalier of the National Order of Merit in 1977, cementing his position among the 20th century’s most influential artistic visionaries in haute joaillerie.

ARTISTRY MEETS INNOVATION

Schlumberger’s tactile Rope ring is the inspiration for the new Rope Watch. A testament to the harmonious marriage of artistic excellence and technical sophistication, it is available in 27mm and 33mm 18 -karat yellow gold adorned with a bezel of concentric circles. Two meticulously polished gold rope motifs encircle the dial, separated by a ring of round‑brilliant diamonds that capture and refract light with exceptional brilliance.

The level of detail achieved by Tiffany & Co.’s master artisans merits particular attention. Even the minute hand incorporates the signature rope design—a subtle yet compelling demonstration of the maison’s unwavering commitment to cohesive design language and meticulous execution. The 27mm features 38 diamonds with an approximate total weight of 0.52 carats, while the more commanding 33mm variant showcases 39 diamonds totalling 0.9 carats.

The dial options present a study in contrasts: a shimmering white mother‑of‑pearl that plays beautifully with light, or a sophisticated glossy black offering timeless restraint. The mother‑of‑pearl variant comes paired with the signature Tiffany Blue alligator strap while the black‑dial version features a coordinating black alligator strap. Each caseback bears an elegantly engraved sun motif complemented with a single diamond.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

What distinguishes the Rope Watch within Tiffany & Co.’s horological portfolio is the groundbreaking solar‑powered movement. Developed in collaboration with Swiss movement specialist La Joux‑Perret, this high‑precision calibre is yet another significant advancement in sustainable luxury watchmaking.

Solar cells positioned beneath the semi‑translucent dial capture ambient light, transforming it into energy that powers the timepiece. When fully charged, the Rope Watch demonstrates an exceptional power reserve of up to eight months without additional light exposure, eliminating the traditional maintenance requirement of battery replacement.

Perhaps more impressive is the efficiency of the charging system. A mere two minutes of direct sunlight exposure provides sufficient power for 24 hours of operation. This sophisticated approach demonstrates that luxury and sustainability need not be mutually exclusive propositions.
