As guests, consisting of watch enthusiasts and avid collectors, entered Woobar, they were treated to a display of luxury watches from the four major Bs in the industry: Bell & Ross, Bovet, Breitling, and Bremont, courtesy of premier retailer Swiss Watch, the launch’s official partner. Delightful refreshments came in the form of cocktails by Bacha Coffee and Martell, as well as wines from Mumm Marlborough and Jacob’s Creek.
The watch collectors were checking out and regaling one another about the timepieces they wore. Befitting the event, it was an impressive mix from Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet to independent players like Nord Zeitmaschine and H. Moser & Cie..
After welcome speeches by Geraldine Beh, managing director of Tatler Malaysia, and Brice Lechevalier, founder of GMT (Great Magazine of Timepieces) magazine in Switzerland, which is a partner of Tatler GMT, there was a dialogue on stage with collectors Dato’ Sri Jeffrey Raymond and Luo Yong Wen about their collecting experience.
Proclaiming to be a watch collector since he was 14, Raymond revealed that his first watch was a Timex from his mother and that he was so excited about it, he stayed up all night admiring the watch. He has since amassed a vast and impressive collection but he claimed doesn’t have a particular favourite. Instead, he said, “My favourite will always be the one that I’m wearing today.”
As a massive fan of Patek Philippe, Luo shared that his most memorable moment came when he met honorary president Philippe Stern at the company’s manufacture in Geneva. “That was a really rare occasion,” he enthused, before admitting that his newfound love was another Geneva-based brand, Akrivia.
Then came the reveal of Tatler GMT Malaysia’s first cover, featuring the Longines Spirit Flyback chronograph with a blue dial. As a title with the watch community in mind, the release of the magazine marked the beginning of Tatler Asia’s re-energised horology platform that showcases the best of what Asia has to offer.
At the heart of this platform is the Tatler GMT Club, which will provide watch enthusiasts with exclusive access to the best in the watch world. This club will be the go-to source for anyone interested to be at the forefront of the latest watch trends, discover new novelties, and connect with like-minded individuals. The Tatler GMT launch, with its unique gathering of watch lovers, was just a taste of many more to come.
