In an exciting development for the automotive industry, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has unveiled a new CEO and president

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has announced Amanda Zhang as the new CEO and President of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia and Head of Region for Mercedes-Benz SEA II, with her appointment becoming effective on August 1, 2023.

This transition follows the tenure of Sagree Sardien, who assumed the role of Head of Region Overseas, Mercedes-Benz Cars in Stuttgart, Germany. Sardien’s legacy includes steering the brand’s global vision towards sustainable luxury, advancing electric mobility in Malaysia, and enhancing customer experiences through innovation and community initiatives. Notably, the brand has solidified its presence in the local and SEA II markets, underscoring a commitment to luxury, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

Sardien’s tenure is particularly distinguished by her instrumental role in spearheading electric mobility in Malaysia. Her visionary approach led to the introduction of a fleet of top-tier luxury electric vehicles (EVs) from Mercedes-Benz, including the locally assembled Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4MATIC. Moreover, her leadership facilitated the digital transformation of the retail experience through the innovative "Retail of the Future" agency model.

In welcoming Zhang, Sardien expressed confidence in her leadership, while Zhang highlighted her commitment to innovation, customer-centricity, and sustainable growth, fostering these values throughout the organisation. “We are thrilled to welcome Amanda Zhang to the helm of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia. Her extensive leadership experience and strategic acumen will undoubtedly further support driving our company forward in the dynamic Malaysian market,” said Sardien.

Prior to this role, Zhang was CEO at Mercedes-Benz Romania, where she drove sales growth, electrification strategies, and revitalised the dealer network. Her impressive journey within Daimler spans over 20 years, marked by successful international projects and contributions to the brand’s evolution including the remarkable ‘Journey to China’ initiative which saw the relocation of all wholesale operations from Hong Kong to Beijing.
