A Lange & Söhne introduces the Lange 1 Daymatic in Honeygold, pairing its mirrored dial architecture with a rare alloy and brown silver dial in a 250-piece edition
The Lange 1 is one of the most instantly recognisable modern watches today. Since its debut, it has stood as a design manifesto of asymmetry rendered harmonious and German engineering expressed with calm authority. Now, A Lange & Söhne presents a version that feels both familiar and quietly fresh—the Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold—a limited edition of 250 pieces that refines the self-winding interpretation of the manufacture’s most famous watch.
At the heart of this release is a first for the model: a case crafted in 750 Honeygold, A Lange & Söhne’s proprietary gold alloy. Warmer in tone and harder than traditional gold, it brings a gentle, muted lustre that feels deliberately understated. Paired with a brown dial made from solid 925 silver, the overall effect is subtle and sophisticated; a watch designed to be noticed by others in the know, rather than to seek attention.

The Daymatic was introduced in 2010 as the automatic version of the manually wound Lange 1. Rather than reinvent the iconic design, it reverses it. The off-centre hour and minute dial sits on the right, while the subsidiary seconds and outsize date move to the left, creating a mirrored take on the classic layout. Instead of a power reserve indicator, it features a retrograde day-of-week display along the left edge of the dial, adding character without disrupting the watch’s visual balance.
At 39.5mm in diameter and just 10.4mm thick, the Honeygold case strikes a careful balance between presence and discretion. It sits confidently on the wrist while remaining slim enough to slip beneath a cuff, the lightly reworked bezel and lugs lending an almost architectural lightness to the silhouette. The hands, appliqué indices and outsize date frame are executed in matching gold, catching light against the darker dial with measured restraint. The watch is delivered on a hand-stitched taupe alligator strap, closed by a Honeygold pin buckle, completing a palette that is warm, considered and distinctly grown-up.

Turn the watch over and the character of the piece deepens. Through the sapphire crystal caseback sits the calibre L021.1, a self-winding movement that reflects Lange’s traditional approach to construction and finishing. Its structure follows the classic three-quarter plate, created here from four separately screwed plates for precise assembly and adjustment. A full-diameter central rotor drives efficient winding, combining a 21-carat gold segment with a platinum centrifugal mass. The mix of warm gold, cool platinum and blued screws creates visual contrast, while four slender spokes help protect the movement from shock. Fully wound, it offers a 50-hour power reserve.
As with all Lange movements, the finishing is treated as a given rather than a flourish. The hand-engraved balance cock, Glashütte ribbing and screwed gold chatons are executed to exacting standards. The balance, fitted with eccentric poising weights and an in-house balance spring, beats at 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour and is adjusted in five positions.
The appeal of the Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold lies in its restraint and refining what already works—through a mirrored dial, a warmer alloy and a rarer colour combination.
