Revisiting one of its most iconic expressions of colour, Piaget’s new turquoise jewellery watches embody the enduring spirit of daring elegance
Long before it adorned the wrists of the fashionable set, turquoise held a special place in human history. For over 7,000 years, it has been treasured by civilisations from Egypt to Persia and the Americas—the ancient Egyptians believed it possessed powers of renewal, while the Aztecs hailed it as the “stone of the gods”. Formed from copper deep within the earth, its hues shift from green to blue, with the most vivid tones regarded as the rarest and most divine. For Piaget, the same radiant shades conjured the French Riviera—its sunlit glamour, its easy joie de vivre—and became a cornerstone of the Swiss luxury jewellery and watch brand’s boldest era.

Piaget first embraced turquoise in 1963, when it transformed traditional watchmaking by pairing ornamental stone dials with its pioneering ultra-thin movements. While much of the watch world favoured restraint, Piaget challenged conventional watchmaking, turning the timepiece into not just a measure of time, but a medium for artistic expression. With the new collection of turquoise timepieces, the brand revisits its enduring muse, reimagining the gemstone that once defined its most vibrant decade in jewellery watches that shimmer with modern grace and a touch of nostalgia.
At the heart of the collection is Sixtie, a timepiece that Piaget introduced at Watches and Wonders Geneva this year, which distils its mastery of proportion and sculptural form. The use of turquoise in this pink gold timepiece feels both familiar and fresh as its silhouette echoes mid-century glamour, while its execution is distinctly modern. Its trapezoidal dial, a nod to the brand’s 21st Century Collection from 1969, gleams with the pure intensity of turquoise, free of numerals or markers so the stone itself takes centre stage. The gadrooned bezel, which is reminiscent of Piaget’s famed TV-screen watch once adored by Andy Warhol, frames the dial in soft, rippling gold. The meticulously engineered five-row bracelet completes the elegant creation, each link polished to perfection and flowing fluidly around the wrist.

This collection also presents a unique, distinctly Piaget way of wearing a turquoise timepiece—as a sautoir. It is a playful reinterpretation of how time can be worn, elevating the watch from wrist to neckline, turning it into a jewel that moves with the body. The Sixtie Swinging Sautoir is inspired by archival sketches once drawn directly onto the pages of fashion magazines, and recalls the daring spirit of Piaget’s 1970s designs worn by the jet set from Monaco to New York. Here, the turquoise dial is cradled within hand-twisted ropes of rose gold, cascading into a tassel of diamonds that glimmers with every gesture. The craftsmanship is extraordinary, as each curve of gold is shaped and polished by hand, and each element is designed to dance with light. The result is a masterful balance of exuberance and refinement that moves with its wearer, blurring the line between jewellery and timepiece.
Alongside it, Piaget unveils a second Swinging Sautoir where a trapeze-shaped turquoise dial is embraced by a rope of twisted pink gold that appears casually knotted yet is meticulously hand-crafted in the brand’s inimitable style. Together, the two sautoirs embody the house’s philosophy that timepieces should adorn not only the wrist, but the body itself—works of art to be worn, felt, and admired. Both sautoirs nod to Piaget’s glamorous 1970s heyday, yet feel strikingly contemporary—pieces that lend effortless drama whether draped over bare skin, slipped beneath an open silk shirt, or layered asymmetrically with other jewels.

Completing this timeless turquoise collection is the Essentia watch, an ode to organic form and natural beauty. Its irregular, almost fluid case frames a dial of vivid turquoise within a softly undulating border of polished pink gold and diamonds. The matching pink gold bracelet is crafted from finely articulated gold chain links and wraps around the wrist like liquid metal, lending a sensual intimacy and sense of movement to the timepiece. Drawing on Piaget’s long‑standing savoir faire in goldsmithing, the Essentia transforms technical mastery into effortless elegance. It is haute couture for the wrist: radiant, confident, and joyfully free.
