‘Squid Game’ Star Jung Ho-Yeon Joins Louis Vuitton as New Ambassador
Jung Ho-yeon’s rise to superstar status has been the news for the past month since Netflix’s Korean survival series, Squid Game came out. From 400,000 followers to almost 15 million as of the date of writing, the model-turned-actress is now the most followed South Korean actress that’s not a K-pop idol on Instagram.
Fresh off the fruits of her meteoric rise, she’s now embarking on a new journey as the new global house ambassador for Louis Vuitton. Prior to her acting debut in Squid Game, Jung had already been a sought after fashion model, making her debut when she was just 16 years old. Her red fiery hair during her early modelling days caught the attention of many fashion brands.
Jung has a long history with the fashion house, having debuted as a Louis Vuitton exclusive model in 2016. She first graced the runway for the brand’s Spring-Summer 2017 collection and continued to embody its style through fashion shows and also appeared in its pre-fall 2017 ready-to-wear campaign.
“It is an honour to start my acting career with Louis Vuitton, the brand I have modelled for. I look forward to all the moments with Louis Vuitton as a global ambassador,” says Jung.
Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s artistic director of women’s collection adds: “I immediately fell in love with Ho-yeon’s great talent and fantastic personality, and I am looking forward to starting this new chapter of the journey we started at Louis Vuitton a few years ago.”
After Jung won the Asian Art Award at the Asian Model Awards in 2019, she started walking for numerous global fashion brands. She was preparing for a fashion show in New York when she auditioned for Squid Game and director Hwang revealed that when he saw Jung’s audition tape, he knew she’s the Sae-byeok he was looking for. The series is now one of the most viewed shows in Netflix’s history.
