These fashion coffee table books will add some serious style to your home

Delicate, minimal and beautifully produced, coffee table books have been a long-time staple for open living spaces. Whether as home decor or reading that pique your genuine interest, these are great books to pour over as you enjoy a cuppa. 

Whilst visual anthologies of fashion icons like Virgil Abloh and Rei Kawakubo have since been released, fashion brands such as Tokyo-based streetwear United Arrows and Copenhagen label Ganni have also launched monographs that make perfect coffee table books. Last December, Malaysia's fashion collective MODA introduced its coffee table book Malaysian Fashion: A Journey in Colour

From visual histories of world-class designers to archival images of contemporary brands, these are our picks of essential coffee table books for fashion lovers. 

1. Malaysian Fashion: A Journey in Colour

For its 30th anniversary, MODA Malaysia celebrates the launch of Malaysian Fashion: A Journey in Colour in collaboration with Raffles KL. Filled with Malaysia's most loved designers from Jimmy Choo to Brian Khoo, this coffee table book—available at the National Art Gallery Malaysia and BookXcess outlets— provides exclusive insight into local designers' creative journeys and humble beginnings. Each designer also has a sketch in the book where readers are able to colour in to make their own.

2. Tod's: Aria D'Italia

Coinciding with the introduction of its latest footwear, the W.G.—a new take on the brand's classic Winter Gommino, Aria d'Italia is Tod's fun project celebrating contemporary Italian lifestyle and its values. From the culinary world of art to the joy of sharing traditions, this visually driven publication reinvents Italian heritage through entrepreneurial and unconventional artistic ideas. 

Within the eight chapters (Joy, Boldness, Passion, Heritage, Pleasure, Timeless, Craftsmanship and Imagination), a series of personal and professional stories are told. Artists, entrepreneurs, chefs, and artisans who represent the heart of Italian identity are photographed by Guido Taroni in their homes and places that represent their origins.

3. Louis Vuitton: Virgil Abloh

Nearly 10 months after the passing visionary designer, Louis Vuitton celebrates the life and legacy of Virgil Abloh in Louis Vuitton: Virgil Abloh. With over 320 images and personal reflections from Abloh's inner circle including renowned voices like NIGO, Naomi Campbell and Kid Cudi, the book is split into eight chapters—one for each menswear collection and fashion show he orchestrated. Dive into the visual chronicle of Virgil Abloh as you unwind over the weekend.

4. Visionaire 20 Comme Des Garcons

Released in 1997 with a limited number of 2,800 copies being produced, the coveted Comme des Garcons Visionnaire 20 is a peek into the archives of Rei Kawakubo, Japanese fashion designer and founder of Comme des Garcons (CDG). Rei let other visionaries like Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander McQueen put looks together for the book, whilst choosing her favourite pieces for select photographers to interpret. From mixing garments to photography on the streets of Hong Kong, what resulted is a unflinchingly artistic compilation, showcasing the avant-garde works of CDG in a new light.

5. The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion

Curator and fashion critic Antwaun Sargent explores a new aesthetic of Black portraiture. This book features 15 talented black photographers—amongst them Tyler Mitchell, Campbell Addy and Awol Erizku, who are reframing representation and breaking boundaries in art and fashion through their images. Be it Lagos or London, their images are often made in collaboration with Black stylists, models, make-up artists, and creative directors. 

Alongside the exhibition, this book is a notable addition to your coffee table chats, opening up deeper conversations about race, beauty, gender, and power.

6. Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

Published to coincide with its exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, this book examines the full breadth of Alexander McQueen's career as one of the most prolific and provocative designers of his generation. From his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection to his final runway presentation, the book features some of his most iconic and radical designs, how he adapted and combined the specialised technique of haute couture with technical innovation to achieve his distinctive aesthetic, and the highly sophisticated narratives underpinning his collections and runway presentations.

7. Pharrell: A Fish Doesn't Know It's Wet
