Blending art deco design with Italian craftsmanship, the new Ferretti Yachts 860 is the quintessence of sea-going splendour

One of the main topics of conversation among the cognoscenti at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival was Ferretti Yachts 860, the latest creation from the legendary Italian boatyard.

Measuring just under 27 metres long and weighing in at 100 tonnes, the new model is equipped with a brace of MAN V12 engines, which enable a cruising speed of 27 knots and a top speed of 32 knots. The 475 sq ft flybridge is the crown jewel in the yacht’s design, with ample space for drinks at the bar, relaxing on deck or lingering over a meal—and for the first time, there’s even room for an optional hot tub.

With each element, the designers have kept a “just like home” concept in mind, blending art deco-inspired geometrical curves with the basic tenets of comfort and craftsmanship and adding a distinctive Italian flourish.

Thoughtful details include floor-to-ceiling windows in the main lounge that allow light to flood in and imbue the yacht with a luxurious yet restful ambience. Recreational opportunities also enjoyed the same attention to detail. For example, the garage is large enough to fit two sea toys—a Williams Jet 395 tender and a two-seat jet ski—which can both be launched directly into the water by lowering the beach platform.

From the main deck’s dining area and living room—which comes complete with expansive seating and a 75-inch TV screen—a helical staircase swoops down to the lower deck, where the full-beam owner’s cabin is located amidships, with innovative acoustic insulation guaranteeing maximum privacy. A further VIP double cabin, plus two regular cabins, allow owners to host four guests overnight. The crew area, with two cabins and two bathrooms, is set well away from the guest zone, and enables direct access to the pilothouse.

Powerful, beautiful and eminently comfortable, this ultra-cool, four-cabin yacht makes sailing into the sunset even more magical.
