Bizarre is often the best word to describe the works of Hieronymus Bosch, whose paintings appear to be at the heart of Alexander McQueen’s spring/summer 2023 collection, First Sight.

On Instagram, the British fashion brand has shared teasers of Bosch’s The Temptation of Saint Anthony being used as a print upon a dress pattern. The finished result is rendered on a 3D model, showcasing a voluminous silhouette that has become creative director Sarah Burton’s signature.

But the reference to Bosch is nothing new to Alexander McQueen: its namesake designer had previously used that same painting as a print across his fall/winter 2010 collection, Angels & Demons, which also happened to be his last.

How will Burton honour that legacy today? Find out in the Alexander McQueen SS23 fashion show, live from London on Tuesday, October 1, at 8 pm (Singapore time) through the livestream below.
