Purple is the colour of the season, most recently spotted on Doja Cat at the VMAs and Camila Cabello at the Met Gala in New York City. However, it can be an intimidating shade to master. We ask for advice from Claudia Soare, the purple-haired president of Anastasia Beverly Hills who recently launched Vol. 5 of her cult-favourite Norvina eyeshadow palette, on how to conquer fears of bold colours, from lilac to dark magenta.

"With colour, it's safest to start on the lower lash line," she says. "Remember, a little goes a long way—especially when it comes to the darker, more opaque colours. It's important to go slowly and be comfortable with the choices you're making. I don't think anyone who is unfamiliar with bright colours can pop it straight on their lids and go out and have a good time. They'd be nervous the whole time and God forbid someone makes a silly comment that keeps them from ever trying it again!"

The humble lip liner has suffered a big dent in its reputation since Kylie Jenner's overlined lips debacle before she achieved billionaire status.

However, this '90s beauty essential is getting a solo comeback as many are choosing to leave their lips lined but unfilled to recreate Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford's pouty looks from back in the day.

This edgy aesthetic has gone mainstream thanks to big names Maisie Williams and Kim Kardashian. It is definitely a commitment but bleached brows open up a whole avenue of beauty looks that accentuate the eyes and face shape. For example, Lizzo is known for brushing colour pigments on her bleached brows, allowing for different colours to match her eyeshadow or outfit at any time.

Old Hollywood Glamour

Many celebrities channeled Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Lauren Bacall—who were renowned for their alluring smokey eyes and luscious lips—at the Met Gala in accordance to the 'Celebrating in America: A Lexicon of Fashion' theme. It would seem that the fashion event has reignited the beauty world's love for the old Hollywood look, which consists of smouldering eyes and luscious red lips. In particular, Anya Taylor-Joy's embodied vintage glamour in her Tiffany jewels and Dior haute couture at the 73rd Emmy Awards.

The secret to achieving this look is a flawless and radiant complexion. Georgie Eisdell, the make-up artist behind the actress's stunning red carpet make-up, shared that she prepped the skin with the Dior Capture Totale Super Potent serum and Dior Capture Dreamskin moisturiser before applying foundation and building the look with contouring, smokey eyes and a statement red lip to finish.

As seen on Camila Cabello and Lil Nas X, the classic cat's eye gets a modern and minimalist makeover. Another variation of the graphic liner, this make-up style is an easy way to add a pop of colour, accentuate the shape of the eye and possibly create the illusion of higher cheekbones, depending on the angle of the wing.

This new eyeliner style—made popular by artist Jacinda—connects winged eyeliner on each side over the bridge of the nose.

It is up to you whether you prefer a singular colour in a straight line for a more graphic statement or to experiment with creative shapes and combinations but we recommend using an eyeliner brush or pen with a thin tip for beginners.

The Roaring '20s are officially back with the return of pencil-thin brows. This vintage beauty trend made a resurgence in the late '90s and early noughties, seen on the biggest movie stars and supermodels, such as Kate Moss, Angelina Jolie and Gwen Stefani. In 2021, its opinion-dividing reincarnation gets rid of the arches—rounded or otherwise—in favour for a straight edge towards the temples gives the illusion of the brow lift.

However, if you're not ready to go back to the overplucked eyebrows of your youth, a beauty hack is to block your brows with concealer and use an brow pen to draw a thin line on top.

In the earlier half of the year, it was all about toned down looks, with palettes of neutral beige and soft floral pinks to accentuate natural beauty. But Libra season has arrived and it is time to embrace the romance, empowerment and sensuous energy in the air as Venus moves into position. Whether you're partial to a bright scarlet or a deeper burgundy hue, a red lip will put you in right mood to dominate the rest of 2021.

The epitome of opulence and luxury is incorporating pearls and diamonds into your make-up routine. Done right, it can also make for a stunning make-up look. Peter Philip, creative director or Dior Make-Up, comments that frosting the lash line with discreet pearls and diamonds can add an "astonishing touch of light", which he proved in the beauty looks he created to match Maria Grazia Chiuri's regal, goddess-inspired dresses for the Dior Cruise 2022 fashion show in Athens, Greece.

Disco brows are dominating TikTok for being both fun and easy. To achieve this look, just fluff up the brow hairs with a damp spoolie brushed on a bar of soap. If you want thicker brows, fill them in with a brow pen

After that, just add a dash of shimmer on top for the perfect disco brows.
