Homegrown condotel Hotel 101 will soon open in California following its plan to provide services globally

Tatler’s Asia’s Most Influential (AMI) honourees Edgar “Injap” Sia II and Tony Tan-Caktiong have set their sights on providing Hotel 101’s services across the globe. In 2022, DoubleDragon Corp announced that it had just acquired 9,000 sqm of land in Hokkaido, Japan. This year, two more expansions are in the making: one in California, US and another in Madrid, Spain—all of which align with their ambitious goal of reaching more than 100 countries by 2040.

Sia founded Mang Inasal, an affordable unlimited rice-and-chicken franchise that grew to more than 300 branches in the Philippines. His partner, Tan-Caktiong, on the other hand, owns Jollibee Foods Corp. The two later joined forces to establish DoubleDragon Properties, the developer behind the CityMall chain.

In an interview with Inquirer, Sia explained that Niseko, Madrid, and California were chosen as their first overseas sites for their "good connections" to the Filipino community and familiarity with the hospitality services being offered by DoubleDragon and Hotel 101.

He also described the locations as "bridge projects" that will jumpstart their global expansion. In 2026, the businessman is eyeing Hotel101 in at least 25 countries.

According to Sia, the team is now ready to take what it has learnt in the Philippines to countries abroad. He believes in the "first-hand" experience Hotel101 gained from building a start-up in the Philippines multiple times. “Our team is determined to use our valuable first-hand learnings these past years to plant Hotel101 Global seeds to the rest of the world,” he said.
