This year marks a new milestone for Swiss luxury watchmaker Breitling. To celebrate its 70th year in the industry, the brand unveils its all-new boutique in Greenbelt 5

Breitling has a lot of things to be grateful for this 2022. To mark its 70th anniversary, the brand relaunched and modernised its iconic Navitimer and unveiled its new concept boutique right in the heart of Greenbelt 5. "We are celebrating two events today; number one is the 70-year anniversary of the Navitimer which we are so happy to relaunch and modernise for our consumers," Breitling Asia President Alvin Soon says in an interview with Tatler.

"At the same time, we are also proud to present our new concept boutique which was delayed for two years because of the pandemic; what best way to celebrate the Navitimer and our 70th anniversary than with a new store?" he adds.

A Gratifying Experience

Soon describes Breitling's feat as a gratifying experience. In 1884, the company started its journey by introducing the modern chronograph and navigational tool watch; today, it is still breaking new ground as a casual, inclusive, and sustainable luxury brand with more than 150 industrial loft-inspired retail locations around the world.

"We would like to thank people who supported us and purchased the Navitimer; we are truly happy," Soon discloses.

An Evolution in Breitling's Signature Modern-Retro Style

To create the new Navitimer, Breitling preserved the most recognisable aspects of the icon’s design code. From a distance, this is unmistakably a Navitimer, with its circular slide rule, baton indexes, trio of chronograph counters, and notched bezel for easy grip. Up close, however, its modern refinements come through loud and clear.

A flattened slide rule and a domed crystal create the illusion of a more compact profile. Alternating polished and brushed finishes give the metal elements a lustrous yet understated quality. A slimmer silhouette on the oscillating weight enhances the open-case back view of the COSC-certified Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01. This movement is backed by a five-year warranty, provides approximately 70 hours of power reserve, and allows the wearer to change the date—now visible through a discreet window in the subdial at 6 o’clock—at any time.

The watch comes in a range of sizes (46, 43, or 41 mm), two case materials (stainless steel or 18-karat red gold), and a choice of straps (semi-shiny alligator or seven-row metal bracelet). Modern colours in shades of blue, green, and copper define its updated dial options. And if there is one feature sure to spark nostalgia, it’s the return of the AOPA wings to their original position at 12 o’clock.
