A 1.5 hour drive north of Chiang Mai takes you to a paradise for those looking to dip their toe into all that Thailand’s forests have to offer. Home to one of the country’s most popular falls, Erawan National Park’s Erawan Falls features seven tiers of pearlescent flowing streams, and jewelled emerald ponds. The park and its falls are named after the majestic three-headed white elephant of Hindu mythology; make it to the top tier of the falls and take in what is said to resemble an elephant’s head.

If you prefer to take a swim in Thailand’s clear blue waters, Koh Chang National Park has coral reefs which are not to be missed. Snorkel or dive down into the park’s waters to escape into Thailand’s rich oceanscape. Like others on our list the park also has trails for trekking, as well as waterfalls and viewpoints, though the park is notably the only island in Thailand with incredible evergreen forests left on the higher elevations.

What was once partly shrimp farms has become a personable mangrove forest park, all thanks to the Thai Royal Family and their visit in 1982. Smaller than others on our list but just as beautiful, overlapping mangrove tree roots are an unimaginable sight from above, overlook the nature below as you walk the park’s boardwalk and enjoy a spot of bird watching, as the park is home to four species of kingfisher. Though fear not if you grow peckish on your stroll, take a seat on the beach for a scenic picnic and a chance to take it all in.
