Ahead of the opening of Hilton Singapore Orchard, Tatler Asia got an exclusive first look inside the new five-star hotel on Orchard Road

There's a new Hilton in town, and it's set to be the hotel group's largest property in Asia Pacific with a total of 1,080 newly refurbished guest rooms and suites.

"How do you make a 1,080-room hotel feel intimate? That was our challenge," says General Manager Cedric Nubul. A challenge that has been masterfully executed through thoughtful and elegant design, which puts the experience of its guests at the forefront.

Tatler Asia got an exclusive first look at the Hilton Singapore Orchard, which is set to open its doors this Thursday, February 24. Here's what we know about the hotel so far...

Making an Entrance

Taking over the site that was once the Mandarin Orchard, Hilton Singapore Orchard is situated on a prime location on one of the city's busiest and most popular retail destinations.

"We wanted to create a grand sense of arrival," says Nubul as we stand in the hotel's double-ceiling lobby, which is flooded with natural light. A vision brought to life by local design firm Avalon Collective, the hotel lobby is fitted with a chandelier, brass accents and elegant green tiles.

Nubul adds that the lobby's contemporary design is a nod to Orchard Road's heritage. "There's a strong botanical influence in the design of the hotel; we want to retell the story of Orchard Road."

Make Yourself at Home

The use of curved arches and rounded edges create a sense of softness and ease throughout the hotel, including in its 1,080 guest rooms complete with marble ensuite.

Hilton Singapore Orchard will offer five styles of suites, topped by a palatial 1,657 square foot Presidential Suite complete with a private office, walk-in wardrobe, sweeping views, plus a dining area that seats up to 10 guests.

Guests staying in one of the suites will have access to an executive lounge, which will offer complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea, snacks throughout the day and happy hour drinks.

Osteria Mozza Returns to Singapore

A collective sigh was heard around Singapore when Osteria Mozza in Marina Bay Sands closed its doors in July 2018. However, the city’s food lovers will be glad to know that the famed LA-based Italian restaurant has found a new home, as Osteria Mozza will be opening at Hilton Singapore Orchard under celebrated chef, Nancy Silverton.

The new Osteria Mozza will offer a “reinvigorated menu of winning classics from Silverton’s original, one-Michelin-starred outpost in Los Angeles as well as newly crafted dishes for Singapore”.

This will include a free-staning fresh mozzarella bar, and a stunning menu of Osteria Mozza’s famous pastas and pizzas.

Other dining venues at Hilton Singapore Orchard will include Estate, a residential all-day dining restaurant that will feature a raw bar, seafood kitchen and premium grill, as well as stations dedicated to preparing an array of authentic Asian cuisines—think Singapore-style popiah with soft shell crab, black truffle roasted duck and Cantonese-style wagyu beef noodles.

And of course, what's a five-star hotel in Singapore without afternoon tea? Housed in a soaring conservatory-style space is Ginger.Lily, a botanical-inspired lobby bar and lounge serving high tea daily, with an adorable patisserie next door for guests to bring home a selection of pastries and sweets.

Business and Pleasure

The opening of Hilton Singapore Orchard comes as Singapore begins to reopen its borders to international travel and lift local restrictions on large-scale events and gatherings, marking its return as a hub and key city destination for business and leisure travellers. The hotel will be able to accommodate meetings and events ranging from conventions and exhibitions to weddings and social celebrations.

What was once a parking lot is now unrecognisable, thanks to the vision of Avalon Collective, who transformed the space into a sleek collection of meeting and function rooms, complete with an indoor zen garden and windows looking out to tropical greenery.

Hilton Singapore Orchard will also feature two pillarless ballrooms fitted with state-of-the-art LED walls, lighting and sound technologies that can cater for up to 1,000 guests.

Guests can also enjoy a variety of amenities and services within the hotel including two 24-hour fully equipped fitness centres and an outdoor pool.

Thinking Sustainably

For a long time, eco-friendly initiatives have been tied to boutique hotels or far-flung destinations. But Hilton is out to prove that big brands—and city hotels—can do it too.

Hilton Singapore Orchard is committed to Travel with Purpose, the hotel group’s Environmental, Social and Governance strategy to promote responsible travel and tourism. Through Travel with Purpose, Hilton has committed to slash its environmental footprint in half by 2030, while doubling its investment in social impact.

Hilton Singapore Orchard will be one of the first Hilton hotels to introduce wooden key cards. Made with basswood, this will eliminate the need for a staggering 40,000 plastic cards per year for the 1,080-room property. Guests will also have the option to use a digital key via the Hilton Honors app.

Single-use plastics have been eliminated as much as possible throughout the hotel, including in the bathrooms where guests will find luxurious bath amenities that are refillable and recyclable. Meanwhile, a custom-built water filtration plant and bottling system by Nordaq will ensure clean, safe drinking water for guests without the use of wasteful plastic bottles.
