The tradition of afternoon tea has become ingrained in our culture since it was brought over by the British ages ago. But that’s not a bad thing, especially in our food-obsessed nation because we get to indulge in bite-sized delights such as finger sandwiches, scones and jam to tide us over before dinner. Even better, you can wash these down with aromatic hot tea, fizzy cocktail or even a super shake.

If you’re ready to partake in this grand tradition, here are some places to go for traditional bites, champagne and more.

1. Raffles Hotel Singapore

Take a trip to the city of jazz with The Grand Lobby’s New Orleans Afternoon Tea. Held exclusively from September 1 to November 30 2021, the restaurant’s jaunt to the cultural melting pot delivers the sweet Southern charm and rich flavours of America’s iconic culinary staples. Offered alongside the signature Classic Afternoon Tea, The New Orleans Afternoon Tea (S$88++ per guest) is a thematic experience breathing life into some of America’s most distinctive cuisine. 

Tuck into New Orleans’ traditional savoury delights including the quintessential New Orleans Muffaletta Sandwich, a famously hearty New Orleans invention packed with cured meats, provolone cheese, and olive dressing between fresh Italian bread; and the Omni Reuben, a New Orleans-style take on the classic Reuben sandwich with corned beef, roasted beets, swiss cheese, cabbage and toasty, grilled rye bread.

Meanwhile, sweet tooths can delight in a unique assortment of classic New Orleans desserts, such as New Orleans Beignets, a doughy yet crispy pillow of deep-fried fried choux pastry generously sprinkled with powdered sugar; melt-in-your-mouth Pecan Pralines, a sweet and crumbly candy confection loaded with toasted pecans; and a decadently rich Chocolate Bread Pudding, a delectable transformation of dried bread into a flavourful chocolatey custard.

The Lobby Lounge goes Haute Couture with a fabulous Fashionista Afternoon Tea. If you have taste for the finer things in life—both material and culinary—this is the tea experience for you. Marrying fashion and food in a trendsetting affair, the set flaunts stylish pastries inspired by designs that grace the runways, making its debut with a reimagined high heels made with Chocolate and Mango, as well as a bespoke Lapis Purse. True embodiments of two distinct artistic arenas, other savoury standouts include the Bresaola Charcoal Puffs sprinkled with a subtle touch of gold, Smoked Salmon with Caviar wheels, and the chef’s sensational Berry Rouge Lipstick.

The Fashionista Afternoon Tea is available daily from 1pm onwards, between September 28 to November 22 2021.


3. Regent Singapore

The afternoon tea tradition started in England, and the culinary team pays tribute to its birthplace with the Spring Tea theme. At the Tea Lounge, you won’t only feel like you’re in an English countryside (thanks to a lush greenery backdrop), you’ll be able to dig into classic afternoon treats, too, served in a three-tiered afternoon tea stand.

Start off with seasonal quiches as well as mini tea sandwiches, including the mimosa sandwich served with a dollop of avruga caviar and roasted Angus beef enhanced with English mustard and black truffle. Desserts are also a sweet affair with options like the decadent apricot cheesecake and green tea tiramisu. Finish off with the TipTree mocktail or a cocktail of your choice.

4. The Lobby Lounge, InterContinental Singapore

The culinary team gives its afternoon tea experience a local twist by coming up with the Heritage Royale Luxury Afternoon tea theme. The delightful spread comprises bite-sized gems interwoven with local flavours, and made with premium ingredients. Sit back, relax and savour the likes of ayam buah keluak or braised chicken in tamarind and nut paste and presented in crostini, and chilli lobster sandwich mixed with crushed peanuts and tucked within a mini roll. Desserts bring back the nostalgia with gold dust ondeh ondeh cake, a delicate kaya sponge layered with coconut mousse and caramel gula melaka. Enjoy the feast with a glass of light and fruity Billecart-Salmon Brut, available from 1pm daily.

5. L’Espresso

Goodwood Park Hotel is famed for its afternoon tea experiences, and the current offer at L'Espress is no different. For one, there's a much bigger spread which includes the usual suspects of plain and raisin scones best eaten with clotted cream and strawberry jam, and ham and cheese croissants.

But if you can pry your hands away from these breads, feel free to tuck into the hot savouries of Swedish meatballs with smoky homemade barbecue sauce, mini pork shepherd's pie, and petite sandwiches like the Hungarian salami and caramelised onions. Save space for desserts and indulge in baked cheesecake for something rich and creamy, or the decadent nougatine chocolate cake.

6. The Landing Point

The Landing Point has crafted the Mid-Autumn Treasures Afternoon Tea, available throughout the month of September.

Better bring your appetite, as there’s a selection of delectable bites to choose from. From the savoury menu, you have the likes of truffle egg dome and chive blossom spinach bread to saffron mini bagels.

While its sweet bites are inspired by The Clifford Pier's mooncakes—a nostalgic nod to Clifford Pier's bustling hawker scene. Highlights include the pineapple and almond ivory chocolate cake, inspired by the mixed nuts with satay sauce baked mooncake, and the coconut raspberry-rose isphan, inspired by the rose coconut baked mooncake. The set comes with a selection of tea flavours as well as Fullerton Super Shakes.

7. Skai

Contemporary dining establishment Skai has partnered up with luxury Haute Couture perfumery Maison 21G, to present an elevated afternoon tea experience that is stylishly bespoke. Perched on the 70th floor of Swissôtel The Stamford overlooking the breathtaking Singapore skyline, Skai provides the perfect backdrop for an intimate blend of exquisite taste and the very best in French bespoke perfumery.

Sit down for the elegant multi-sensorial journey that is SKAI’s Premium High Tea menu, featuring dainty upscale delights such as Crab topped with crème fraiche, ikura and pickled apple; Foie Gras paired with shiso, plum and beet bun as well as a luxurious Organic Egg Mayo Eclair sprinkled with chives and truffle.

8. Park Royal Collection

Sit amongst nature at Portman’s Bar, located in the grand Park Royal Collection at Marina Bay. At the heart of the city’s first “garden-in-a-hotel” is the renowned restaurant named after the neo-futuristic Architect John Portman, who first designed the building and the atrium space it occupies.

Serving up an array of delectable treats, Portman Bar allows guests to lounge in serenity during the day, soaking in the warm glow from the skylight whilst enjoying speciality grade coffee alongside an afternoon tea. The Afternoon Tea Set (SGD48++ per person) here features a spread of both sweet and savoury bites, catered to your every culinary mood, available daily from 1pm onwards.

9. Window on the Park

Revel in a traditional English afternoon high tea experience with friends and loved ones at Window on the Park. Located in Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Center, Window on the Park's Halal-certified Afternoon High Tea brings you on a gastronomic journey to awaken your palate with an extensive range of tea-infused creations. 

Highlights include smoked salmon tartare with lemon verbena jelly, minty buttermilk chicken, earl grey cheesecake and Teh Terik cream puff craquelin. 

Currently, this high tea set is on a special one-for-one promotion—Pay 1 Dine 2 dine-in offer of only $70nett, available from 12pm-5pm daily with each high tea session capped at 3 hours (maximum).

10. InterContinental Singapore

In partnership with Acqua di Parma, InterContinental Singapore offers a classic high tea set, providing diners with a luxurious dining experience, drawing inspiration from the fragrance brand's Signatures of the Sun collection. Featuring sweet and savoury bites, this set incorporates ingredients such as yuzu, sakura and osmanthus, while highlighting on smoky tones inspired by leather, wood and amber. 

Signatures include the yuzu mimosa tart with jasmine marshmallow, sakura cream and pink peppercorns, sesame-crusted Norwegian salmon toast with saffron aioli, and mini donuts with crabmeat salad. This set also includes a nectareous welcome drink, Sole Tè—lemon bush tea infused with osmanthus flowers.  

The Classic Afternoon Tea: La Dolce Vita set is available from September 16 to November 14, 2021, available from 1pm to 5.30pm daily.
