Garrya Mu Cang Chai, the world’s largest bamboo resort, combines nature, tradition and wellness perfectly in Vietnam
At 1,000 metres above sea level in Yen Bai province in North Vietnam, Garrya Mu Cang Chai opens as the world’s largest bamboo-structured wellness resort and Banyan Group’s first Garrya property in the country. Set across 6.5 hectares of terraced mountainside, it brings a contemporary take on hospitality to one of the most remote landscapes in Vietnam.
Bamboo defines the architecture, both for its cultural symbolism and practical strength. The structures are designed for light, air and sweeping views, with brocade-inspired details that reference the craftsmanship of the local H’Mong community. The effect is understated, spacious and firmly rooted in place.

A sanctuary for total wellness
The resort includes 110 rooms, suites and villas, from compact escapes to multi-bedroom pool villas. Several have direct access to the Hydrotherapy Wellbeing Area, which integrates spa treatments into the stay. The 8lements Spa features thermal pools, cold plunges, an infrared sauna and a herbal steam room, complemented by a gym, group classes and a Social Zone for games and downtime.
Dining focuses on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Refresh, the main restaurant, balances wellness-focused dishes with international options, while Charcoal Grill highlights open-fire cooking inspired by regional techniques. A poolside bar serves lighter meals and drinks. The property also offers an eight-metre-high bamboo ballroom, flexible event spaces and a screening room.
Off the beaten path in Lao Cai, Vietnam
Roughly six hours from Hanoi, Garrya Mu Cang Chai encourages guests to engage with the region through guided treks, craft workshops and village storytelling. Located within a protected heritage landscape, it aims to move beyond luxury clichés, instead emphasising sustainability, cultural connection and a sense of place.
