Hoshino Resorts Risonare Shimonoseki arrives this December, blending design, nature and culture on Japan’s coast
Hoshino Resorts Risonare Shimonoseki is scheduled to open in December 2025, marking the first Risonare brand resort in the Kyushu-Yamaguchi region and expanding Hoshino Resorts’s footprint in Japan’s scenic coastal destinations. Located on the southern tip of Honshu island overlooking the Kanmon Strait, which separates Honshu and Kyushu, the resort capitalises on its strategic setting to provide uninterrupted views of the sea, the Kanmon Bridge and Moji Port from all guestrooms, terraces and pools.

Thoughtful design inspired by local culture and nature
The design theme honours the locale through subtle references to the Kanmon Strait and the iconic fugu or pufferfish, a local culinary treasure. This is reflected aesthetically and experientially, notably in an indoor pool area themed after the pufferfish and a water slide that mimics the strait’s currents, creating an engaging environment for families. Among the 187 guest rooms across nine categories is the exclusive Strait Cabana Suite, featuring a private sandy beach and curated amenities that invite guests to interact with the natural surroundings.
Family-friendly features and unique guest experiences
Outdoor facilities include a visually striking infinity pool that blends seamlessly with the ocean horizon, epitomising the resort’s integration of architecture and nature. The Nami Nami Terrace, with its wave-inspired design, offers a peaceful space for guests to soak in the views and ambience. Children can partake in the Captain Academy, a creative maritime role-play facility that connects young guests to the coastal environment through hands-on learning and play.
Beyond hospitality, Hoshino Resorts has partnered with Shimonoseki City to foster regional revitalisation efforts. This collaboration promotes local cultural assets and outdoor activities, including fishing and cruising, seeking to enrich visitor experiences and support the community’s economic sustainability. This commitment underscores Hoshino Resorts’s broader strategy to engage meaningfully with locations by integrating local traditions, nature and community into its resorts.
Hoshino Resorts Risonare Shimonoseki offers a distinctive coastal retreat that combines contemporary design with regional character. It caters to diverse travellers from families to pet owners, featuring thoughtful amenities and immersive experiences in a tranquil yet dynamic setting.
