Fiore Dorato founder Brenda Lee knows a thing or two about creating maximum impact for weddings using florals. Here, she shares her recent experience designing a grand wedding held at Capella Singapore.

As any bride and bride-to-be knows, flowers are the secret sauce that can transform an ordinary wedding into a mesmerising spectacle. Blooms not only lend elegance and romance to the setting, but also infuse the celebration with symbolism and personalised flair. From corsages and bouquets to table centrepieces and floral backdrops, flowers leave an indelible mark on the couple’s special day and a lasting impression on guests’ minds.

This is what Brenda Lee, founder and creative director of floral art studio Fiore Dorato, set out to do when she established her business in 1996. Her mission–to create uniquely charming and artistic experiences with flowers that leave a lasting impression–has never wavered.

While weddings constitute a significant portion of the business, the evolving nature of the floristry industry has meant that flower-centric, experiential events are in-demand more than ever. What keeps her going is the “passion for creating beauty and spreading love and joy through flowers”.

Lee has been in the business for more than 25 years, but it might come as a surprise to some when she admits that it doesn’t get any easier. “While experience brings efficiency, the evolving nature of the industry means each event presents unique challenges. It's this dynamic aspect that keeps the job both challenging and rewarding,” she says.

A recent wedding for 122 guests held at Capella Singapore exemplified this diametrically opposed dynamic. With budget a non-issue, the clients had but one request, “excellence”. “Their paramount priorities were magnificence, unbridled luxury, and an experience that transcends expectations,” says Lee.

With an unlimited budget and a blank canvas, one might be tempted to think that there was no challenge involved. Yet the opposite was true. The request called for unparalleled creativity, with no room for error in all its lavishness.

Lee and her team responded to the “Crazy Rich Asians” design brief with an opulent extravaganza. “We aimed to craft an experience that mirrored the lavish lifestyles depicted in the iconic movie,” explains Lee. “Our vision was to immerse clients and guests in a world of extravagance, weaving together decadent floral arrangements, grandiose decor, and a sumptuous ambiance, ensuring an unforgettable celebration.”

The studio settled on pink blooms as the dominant hue, with accents of white, cream and purple. All were imported from The Netherlands. The set-up took three days, with Lee and her team camping out at the hotel to oversee the mammoth operation. Thankfully, there were no hiccups along the way, which Lee attributes to the strong and collaborative relationship between the venue and contractors.

The end result was a sight for sore eyes, with a magical ambiance worthy of Hollywood-style fairytale romances. Fairy lights adorned every tree along the hotel’s driveway, leading to a drop-off point featuring three enchanting floral arches and candle-lit aisles guiding guests toward the main ballroom.

The foyer boasted a grand staircase draped in blooms, and a captivating full-height floral wall provided a picturesque backdrop for photo opportunities in the cocktail area. A warm welcome awaited guests at the entrance, marked by the couple’s imposing initials.

Guests then entered through a breathtaking three-metre floral arch tunnel, graced with a red carpet, marking the transition from the garden into a regal palace. The mirrored aisle ushered couples to the stage that was dressed in an opulent display of florals, while beautiful bouquets, complemented by grand chandeliers, stood proudly at each dining table.

Luxurious armchairs awaited guests, inviting them to immerse themselves in three hours of entertainment—from music and dancing to soulful singing—dedicated to celebrating the newlywed couple, M&S.

Not surprisingly, the clients’ feedback was immensely positive. “They described it as ‘spectacular’ and even went on to compare it favourably to their Dubai wedding celebration just a month prior, stating that the experience exceeded their expectations in beauty and grandeur,” says Lee. “Their satisfaction was further evidenced by an immediate decision to enlist our services for their upcoming event, cementing a strong and ongoing partnership.”
