The couple’s stylish penchants manifested in a night of unconventional decadence, heartfelt traditions and candlelit revelry
It was a fine day in May when we received a text message that said “you’ll be receiving a very special delivery today”. A white box arrived, marked with a gilded HCW monogram, encasing a mirrored card with not just a date, time and place engraved, but a plush jewellery pouch housing a stylish dog tag necklace with those same interlacing initials—all designed by Cream Pie Studio. It was the invitation to Hendi and Charissa Widodo’s wedding—and guests knew it was going to be a night to remember from the moment they RSVP-ed.
A director of an Indonesia-based shipping company who also manages his family’s private investment holding, Hendi Widodo is also a collector—albeit in a decidedly low profile manner—of rare timepieces and rarefied streetwear. And his edgy affinities were reflected in a lot of the wedding event’s aesthetics—balanced, of course, with an air of elegant decadence to encapsulate his wife Charissa’s penchants as well.

Following a private afternoon solemnisation, Capella Singapore’s ballroom was transformed into a world that could only be described as fairytale noir for dinner, conjured up by wedding planner I Do For You and visual curators Magic System. “We approached our wedding planner and curator with grand aspirations filled with elegance, opulence and attention to detail. And our dream wedding was executed in a magical setting, adorned with fragrant flowers, twinkling lights and an ethereal ambience that brought tears of joy to our eyes”, said the emotional groom. The dinner soiree was attended by close to 200 guests, comprising friends and family from across the region, including the likes of Uttsada Panichkul, Fiona Xie, Glenn Yong, Show Lo, Tasha Low, Richie Koh, Chase Tan and Chan Ning.

Aglow from hundreds of candles was the grand, gothic-esque space filled with long tables sheathed in black, dramatically topped with glass candelabras and luscious white blooms by Florte from end to end. Guests were treated to a feast prepared by the hotel, a lavish but respectfully traditional six-course dinner featuring the ubiquitous starters of roasted duck, prawn rolls and pork belly; double-boiled chicken soup, braised eight-head abalone and cod fish, culminating with silky noodles with king prawns in superior broth and a dessert of pomelo, sago and mango cream.
The piece de resistance of the meal, however, was the wedding cake—an out-of-this-world 10-feet tower of pristine white decadence.

The couple’s march-ins and speeches interspersed the delectable courses, mainly led by the bridal party of eight beloved bridesmaids and groomsmen, and special surprises by family members who took to the stage to express their love for the newlyweds. Led by creative director Mae Tan and Jack Wang, Magic System was also responsible for the custom lighting and music for the evening, which completed the dark, otherworldly vibe with a live orchestra and songs like Lana Del Rey’s Love after guests viewed video montages of their daytime solemnisation, tea ceremony and Bali pre-wedding shoot.
Following the customary champagne pouring, a boisterous yam seng and an insane number of photos—and Instagram Stories—taken, the couple marched out to the sounds of Frank Sinatra, Daniel Caesar and Bon Iver as guests continued to revel in the candlelight.
