GWM showcases innovative Tank 500 SUV and WEY 80 MPV at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show, highlighting its commitment to sustainable, high-performance hybrid vehicles for the Malaysian market
The highly anticipated 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show opened on December 5 with an exclusive media preview at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), ahead of its grand public debut the following day.
Among the most striking exhibits on the second floor of the arena is the display by the Chinese automotive powerhouse Great Wall Motor (GWM). Building on the strong momentum from its first Malaysian showroom launch just two years ago, GWM’s showcase exudes ambition and innovation.
Since launching its first Malaysian showroom just two years ago, GWM has steadily gained traction, underscored by its commitment to sustainable mobility solutions. Centre stage at its pavilion was the GWM ORA GOOD CAT—one of Malaysia’s pioneering EVs—the elegant GWM ora 07 EV sedan, and the cutting-edge GWM HAVAL H6 hybrid SUV, all highlighting the brand’s bold vision for eco-friendly transportation.

Reaffirming its commitment to intelligent and sustainable mobility for the Malaysian market, GWM seized the moment to unveil two new energy vehicles (NEVs) set to debut locally in the near future, the highly anticipated GWM TANK 500 SUV and GWM WEY 80 MPV.
Set to launch next year, the GWM TANK 500 is a seven-seater SUV that exemplifies the perfect blend of luxury and off-road prowess. For those who love adventure, the TANK 500 is an indispensable off-road companion. Tailored for adventure seekers with a taste for refinement, it features a robust 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid engine, delivering an impressive 258kW and 648 Nm of torque.
Its luxurious interior design and features ensure that an off-road journey never compromises on elegance. Standard features include automatic LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, LED tail lights, power-retractable side steps and 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the Tank 500 boasts a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Adding to the luxury are quilted Nappa leather upholstery and powered front seats with a driver’s side memory function.

Meanwhile, the GWM WEY 80, which has no release date set as of yet, is GWM’s premium seven-seater MPV offering. It sets new standards in elegance blending family comfort and business presence. Its spacious seven-seat design accommodates family trips while effortlessly meeting high-end business needs.
The car features a Dedicated Hybrid Technology (DHT) plug-in hybrid system which combines a 156 PS, 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors for a remarkable total output of 487 PS and 762 Nm of torque. Adding to its efficiency, a 37.96 kWh ternary lithium battery enables up to 140 km of electric-only travel.
The GWM WEY 80’s cabin is outfitted with an array of luxurious features, including soft Nappa leather seats, zero-gravity seats, a cooling and heating fridge, independent folding tables for the second row, and 1600W Harman Kardon sound system that ensures that every journey feels like a first-class experience. An innovative air fragrance system adds a final touch of personalisation, offering three distinct ambient scent profiles to elevate the sensory experience.

Aside from these two models, GWM also showcased its other lineup of cars including the ORA GOOD CAT hatchback, a popular model for urban youths due to its classic retro design and eco-friendly electric drive technology. On display was also the GWM HAVAL H6 HEV, a family-oriented SUV that is an ideal choice for modern families which features ample storage capacity and a smart driving assistance system that ensures every trip is enjoyable and safe. This hybrid SUV not only boasts ample power and ultra-low fuel consumption—up to 1000km per tank—but also excels in space and practicality.
