Asian excellence was on full display at the red carpet premiere of Turning Red, Pixar’s first Asian-led film. Here are all the Asian stars who were present
Turning Red is set to make history when it premieres on March 11 as Pixar’s first Asian-led movie, the first solely directed by a woman and the first to have an all-women leadership team.
At its premiere in the El Capitan Theatre, Los Angeles on March 1, the cast, crew and many other Asian stars were present to celebrate the movie.
Here are some of the Asian stars who were present on the red carpet.

Rosaline Chiang

Rosaline Chiang plays the titular character Meilin ‘Mei’ Lee, a 13-year-old girl who suddenly transforms into a giant red panda whenever she gets too emotional.
Chiang is a newcomer, having only starred in two short films, Soiled and The Interns. She also appeared in the TV series, Clique Wars.
Sandra Oh

Sandra Oh is playing Ming Lee, Mei’s overprotective mother. Oh is best known for her role as Cristina Yang in Grey’s Anatomy for which she received multiple Emmy Award nominations.
Oh is currently starring as Eve Polastri in the fourth season of Killing Eve.

Domee Shi

Domee Shi is the director of Turning Red as well as the Oscar-winning short film, Bao. Turning Red is her first directorial debut and is also the first Pixar film to be solely directed by a woman.

Maitreyi Ramarkrishnan

Never Have I Ever breakout star, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan plays Priya, one of Mei’s friends. Turning Red is the actress’ first film after the teen Netflix series.

Topher Ngo

Topher Ngo is playing one of the members of 4Town, the original boy band created solely for the movie. Ngo is a Vietnamese American voiceover artist, bass vocalist and actor.
Tristan Allerick Chen

Tristan Allerick Chen is taking on the role of Tyler, Mei’s classmate. The young actor previously worked on Ron’s Gone Wrong and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
Hyein Park

Hyein Park is taking on the role of Abby, one of Mei’s friends. Park is a comic artist and story artist at Pixar, having worked on the animation for Soul, Toy Story 4, Bao and even Turning Red.
Grayson Villanueva

Grayson Villanueva is playing another member of 4Town. In addition to voice acting, Villanueva is also a singer, music producer and vocal arranger.
Julia Cho

Julia Cho is a playwright and an alumna of Juilliard School and New York University. Some of Cho’s plays include Durango, The Winchester House and Aubergine. Her work has been produced in numerous theatres including East West Players, The Vineyard Theatre and New York Theatre Workshop.
Jimmy O Yang

Jimmy O Yang is a Hong Kong-born American actor, best known for his role as Jian-Yang in the comedy series, Silicon Valley. He also plays Chan Kaifeng in the Netflix series, Space Force. Recently, he starred in his first romantic leading role in Love Hard.

Sherry Cola

Sherry Cola is a comedian and actress who portrays Alice Kwan in Good Trouble. She will be seen next in Crazy Rich Asians screenwriter, Adele Lim’s upcoming R-rated comedy.
Michele Selene Ang

Michele Selene Ang is best known for starring as Courtney Crimsen in the Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why.
Angelica Song

Angelica Song is a TikTok influencer, YouTuber and digital creator. Her content often gives advice to future and current college students.
AJ Rafael and Alyssa Navarro

AJ Rafael is a singer, songwriter and YouTuber. He’s best known for uploading covers of existing songs as well as original ones he composes.
His girlfriend, Alyssa Navarro is a film producer and currently works at The Walt Disney Studios, specialising in representation and inclusion strategies.
Mia Tagano

Mia Tagano is an actress, voiceover coach and theatre performer. She’s voicing Aunt Lily in Turning Red.
Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani

The Shibutani twins are Olympic skaters best known as the Shib Sibs. The ice-skating duo is the 2018 Olympic bronze medallist and a two-time US national champion.
