We’re rounding up the highlights and the stars who were in attendance at the premiere of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which was held on August 16, 2021 at El Capitan Theatre, Los Angeles. 

Set to make history with Simu Liu starring as Marvel’s first-ever Asian superhero, fans around the world tuned into Marvel’s world premiere live stream to see the cast walk the red carpet, and get more sneak peeks at what they can expect from the movie.

Simu Liu

The Kim’s Convenience star is set to become the first-ever Asian superhero with the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in cinemas next month. In a tweet a few days before the premiere, Liu said: “We are not an experiment. We are the underdog; the underestimated. We are the ceiling-breakers. We are the celebration of culture and joy that will persevere after an embattled year. We are the surprise.”

Starring as Katy, Awkwafina reunites with Simu Liu––who appeared in her series, Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens––and her fellow Crazy Rich Asians co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Ronny Chieng.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director, Destin Daniel Cretton, and Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning director of Marvel’s upcoming Eternals, Chloé Zhao, step out together on the red carpet.
