Two recent projects by SuMisura exemplify a seamless union of sustainability and subtler displays of opulence
As the world increasingly values sustainability and conscious consumerism, it looks like the recent design trend, quiet luxury, is here to stay. It prioritises longevity, both in style and environmental impact, and focuses on quality over quantity, ethical practices, and an appreciation for detailed craftsmanship and beauty.
Renowned for its innovative and thoughtful approach, design firm SuMisura elegantly embodies this trend in its latest show units: J’den in Singapore, and Lumi in Hanoi, Vietnam. Both these projects exquisitely demonstrate how design can be both luxurious and sustainable, creating spaces that are opulent, functional, and environmentally conscious.

J’den show unit, Singapore
SuMisura’s J’den project is a modern reinterpretation of a Korean apartment with traditional features, integrating natural elements with contemporary design. The meticulous curation of furniture, bespoke creations, and commissioned objects results in spaces designed to foster a harmonious relationship between nature and the built environment.
A key principle in the J’den design is the judicious selection of furniture to ensure functionality and aesthetic appeal. Considering the living room’s width, sleek and slender volumes of furniture were incorporated. This ensured ample space for movement while maintaining an inviting and cosy ambience. The design introduces a rich texture into a neutral-toned space by varying the heights of items, such as the coffee table and adjacent volumes.
Eschewing the use of traditional doors, SuMisura employed perforated panels to segment the different communal spaces gracefully. This inspired design choice promotes a sense of flow, encouraging effortless movement. These panels provide a degree of separation without isolating the spaces from one another, maintaining an airy and open atmosphere.

Above The compact kid’s room is designed for comfort and productivity
To direct the views towards the Jurong skyline, the design team ingeniously created swivelling fins to replace the curtains. These add an element of uniqueness and contemplation, inviting the occupants and visitors to pause and reflect; they also serve to enhance the overall design.
In the master suite, the intent behind the design was to create contrast and comfort. Millwork and illuminated displays heighten the sense of intimacy within the space. Materials and lighting were mindfully chosen to enhance the room’s luxurious feel while preserving a sense of cosiness.
The design of the child’s room emphasises practicality and inspiration. A platform bed, a functional study table and a versatile pegboard wall ensure comfort and utility for the school-going child. The room’s theme is beautifully tied together with an inspiring poster of The Karate Kid. A light timber colour scheme and thoughtfully selected accents imbue the room with warmth, crafting an optimal environment for relaxation and productivity.
Strategically placed lighting fixtures are pivotal in creating elegant spaces that whisper luxury. SuMisura masterfully leverages these elements to enhance the overall ambience, using them to highlight architectural features and create a warm, inviting atmosphere. For instance, ambient lighting is utilised to create a soft, diffused glow, while accent lighting is strategically placed to highlight art pieces and architectural details, adding a layer of sophistication to the spaces.
Lumi showroom, Hanoi
The Lumi showroom in Hanoi highlights the transformative power of lighting in interior design. Various ambient and accent lighting fixtures were meticulously chosen and incorporated into the design to ensure that the overall aesthetic resonates with the concept of light. Lighting plays a crucial role in shaping a space’s overall look and ambience; SuMisura has harnessed this power with much aplomb in the Lumi showroom.
Gentle LED lights illuminate the spaces, embedded in textured and curved walls as design features. These lights provide illumination while adding a subtle artistic touch to enhance the overall aesthetic. The result is an inviting environment that emphasises both functionality and style.
Decorative lighting fixtures are judiciously positioned to create visual masterpieces, accentuating key zones such as the reception area, the model stand, and the sublime VIP lounge. These fixtures serve both practical and decorative purposes, drawing attention to specific areas while contributing to the showroom’s luxurious feel.

Above Polished white marble tables and soft ambient lighting create a welcoming atmosphere
A modern, monochromatic colour palette graces the space, incorporating horizontal, ivory-textured panels positioned along the walls. These panels cast a soft glow onto the marble flooring, creating a sophisticated and cohesive look. The monochromatic palette ensures that the space feels modern and elegant, while the textured panels add a layer of visual interest.
Finishing touches in the form of plants and floral arrangements are also utilised to elevate the space’s ambience. Green monstera palms and ferns of varied heights surround the sides of the elevated VIP lounge, forming a verdant parapet background for the discussion areas below. These natural elements introduce a touch of greenery, softening the overall look and creating a more inviting atmosphere.
An ensemble of illuminated glass sabres is prominently featured above the model stand, serving as a striking focal point. This artistic lighting installation adds a sense of drama and sophistication, embodying the essence of quiet luxury.
