50 Top Pizza Awards the Best Pizzerias in APAC–find out how your favourite pizza spots ranked this 2022
Nothing beats a fresh-out-of-the-oven pizza. Some days, the perfect slice is really all you want and perhaps need. Whether it be thick crust, thin crust, deep-dish, pizzas with whimsical toppings, or simply the perfect classic, traditional Italian pizza, we all have our go-to's for that mouthwateringly delicious bite.
Awards body, 50 Top Pizza, a branch of the 50 Top Italy group, began their pizza top listing around 2017, launching around Italy and has since expanded to the United States, the EU, and now, for the first time ever, APAC. This 2022, they held their awarding ceremony in The Peninsula Bangkok. All 50 pizzerias received letters of inclusion earlier in the year but were not told of their ranking, which was only to be revealed this August 8, 2022.
50 Top Pizza taps voters and reviewers in each local region in APAC to ensure that the restaurants are properly vetted throughout the process. The online foodie guide proudly judges on a range of criteria such as the food quality, service, wine, décor, overall ambience, and even wait time. All reviewers are encouraged to judge the establishment based on the experience as a whole and not solely focus on one aspect.
“The guide does not have ideological principles, it is inspired by the concept of excellence in the broad sense but favours those who use products from the local territory or seasonal ingredients. We appreciate the use of European quality brands (PDO, PGI, TSG) and, of course, the PATs according to the annual list from the minister. With an appreciation for sustainability, it also favours establishments that, regardless of style, have a precise pizza design project that is realised, with consistency and without following the trends of the moment. The inspectors, just like the curators, are free and autonomous. They work, therefore, in an unbiased way, committed to the values that we have just listed,” the group discloses on their website.
48h Pizza e Gnocchi Bar in Melbourne came out on top as the Best Pizzeria in Asia. In second place is Bottega in Beijing, which also got the title Best Pizzeria in China. Coming in third place is The Pizza Bar on 38th in Tokyo, which also was named Best Pizzeria in Japan.
The first 15 eateries are in for an even more special treat as they each got an invitation to be part of the 50 Top Pizza World 2022, the group's worldwide top list, which will be revealed on September 7, at Palazzo Reale in Naples.

In the Philippines, three eateries were included in the top 50 listing, with Crosta Pizzeria, founded by Tommy Woudwyk and Ingga Cabangon Chua, ranking first, claiming the title Best Pizzeria in the Philippines, and number 32 in APAC. Crosta is known for their modern spin on this classic Italian item. The group is proudly atypical and constantly innovative, taking pride in their sense of playfulness which is evident through their packaging, pizza names, and branding too.

Wild Flour Italian, helmed by CEO and president Ana de Ocampo, chefs Allen Buhay and BJ Mantuano and guided by seasoned founding partners, Walter and Margarita Manzke, came in at number 38 for their expertly-crafted pies that come piping hot straight from a wood-fired brick oven. The Wildlflour Group just recently celebrated ten years in the industry!

Meanwhile, A Mano of Amado Forés and lauded chef Margarita Forés placed 48th and also secured the exciting title of ‘One to Watch’. A Mano, which literally translates to “by hand” in Italian, takes great pride in their handmade traditional pizzas–which you can easily view being made thanks to their beautiful open-kitchen set-up.
