Get acquainted with all the new and old faces to receive and retain Michelin stars this year

Marking its 16th edition in Hong Kong and Macau, the Michelin Guide held its yearly awards ceremony at the Grand Lisboa Palace in Macau today (March 14), marking one year since pandemic restrictions were lifted and a defacto return to normalcy for the F&B industry. This year, the Michelin Guide sees the addition of 7 new one-star restaurants and two new two-star restaurants, with 95 additions receiving or retaining stars in total.

The ranks of the one-starred contingent welcomed the likes of Chef Tam's Seasons in Wynn Palace Macau, Racines and Sushi Kinetsu in Macau. Plant-forward fine-dining restaurant Feuille nabbed both its first Michelin star as well as a Green Star, denoting its dedication to sustainable practices in the kitchen. The opulent Cristal Room by Anne-Sophie Pic, which has only been open for four months, saw a lightning ascent with its first Michelin star, adding to its chef-patron's 10 stars around the world; while Cantonese restaurant Sun Tung Lok lost one of its two stars in 2024. Those dropping out of the rankings entirely include The Araki, Jardin de Jade and The Kitchen.

As for individual awards, an elated Shinya Goshima, the chef-founder of one-starred Godenya, also took to the stage to receive the Sommelier Award, expressing surprise that his restaurant, which only serves sake pairings, could qualify for the wine-centric award. In addition to its first Michelin star on its fifth anniversary, The Legacy House also saw front-of-house member Lydia Yung, who has been with the restaurant since its opening, receive the Service Award. Mora, the tofu-centric establishment by Tate Dining Room's Vicky Lau, added to its Green Star with its first Michelin star, while head chef Choi Ming Fai was bestowed the Young Chef Award.

In the midfield, a pair new two-Michelin-starred restaurants were anointed: Noi and The Huaiyang Garden, both having received their first Michelin stars in 2023, rapidly nabbed their second star this year.

There were no new additions to the three-Michelin-starred contingent—the only change was the downgrading of The Eight to two stars, having held three for ten consecutive years.
