Mother’s Day gifts 2024: Cakes, pastries, and other sweet treats for Mum

The special box is a thoughtful mix of new treats and Butterboy signatures: leche flan wheel, pain au chocolate, canelé, spinach and sausage quiche, banana madeleine, strawberry madeleines, blueberry and cream cruffin, and the classic croissant.

By now, tales of Ijo Bakery’s exceptional croissants and viennoiserie have inspired many road trips south to Lipa. But did you know that pastry chef and owner Jio Katigbak has also opened up a sister bakeshop just a few metres down? For Mother’s Day, Uniqo Pâtisserie puts out a special box set comprising a lemon tart, strawberry tart, vanilla choux, and mango mousse.

Though based in Bataan, Anton Miranda brings his Old Boy Bakery goodies to Power Plant Mall. Now, they can be found at Baker’s Dozen every weekend, with new treats to look forward to monthly. For May, Miranda presents a light and fluffy coconut chiffon cake soaked in coconut milk and filled with coconut cream custard. The cake is then covered in delicious marshmallow frosting and finished with grated fresh coconuts. The coconut cake will be decorated with fresh flowers this weekend, perfect for Mother’s Day gifting.

While it’s true that you never quite know what you’ll get with a box of chocolates, you can rest assured that Pia Fine Chocolates never fails to deliver quality, decadent treats. Their Mother’s Day box is filled with a whopping 32 pieces to savour, including bonbons, truffles, milk, and white caramel chocolates.

Conrad Manila celebrates Mother’s Day with a range of delicious cakes and pastries from Bru Coffee Bar, available from May 1 to 12. For something truly special, surprise Mum with one of their exciting hampers, which includes an assortment of dried nuts, red velvet crinkles, flaky sea salt, and playful makeup-themed desserts like chocolate lipsticks.

In addition, buffets at Brasserie on 3 will be extra festive with photo booths, live performances, and champagne. At the same time, China Blue offers a special Mother’s Day set menu good for ten persons, available this weekend only. Alternatively, guests may opt for Mother’s Day-themed afternoon tea at C Lounge from May 6 to 12.

Those who love Japanese desserts will surely enjoy The Manila Baker’s Mother’s Day cake, available for the month of May. The matcha black sesame crumble cake boasts layers of matcha chiffon and black sesame salted cream cheese, all enveloped in matcha buttercream and topped with black sesame crumble.

The only thing better than a beautiful bouquet of flowers is that of delicious, edible flower cakes. Cupcakes by Sonja and Cakeshop by Sonja have no shortage of gorgeous floral cakes, like the Peony Perfection Bouquet: a set of four chocolate and three vanilla cupcakes decorated and arranged to mimic an actual bouquet. Their Mother’s Day 2024 collection includes a box of six peony and tulip cupcakes, a floral garden cake, and an adorable box of 12 mini cupcakes.

Serendipity Gourmet’s Mother’s Day special blends juicy mango and tangy guava in one delectable pie. The Mamita’s Guava Mango Gourmet Pie boasts a crisp, flaky crust, chunky (not mushy!) fruit filling, and a layer of unsweetened leche flan plus whipped cream for some richness.

Make mum blush this Mother’s Day with Dylan Patisserie’s limited-edition cake. The Classy Blush cake is their own take on the classic strawberry shortcake, composed of almond sponge base, vanilla whipped ganache, and strawberry compote.

Famed Baguio croissant authority Rebel Bakehouse teams up with Fleur de Eloise for a stunning Mother’s Day present. In addition to their classic butter croissant, pain au chocolate, and ensaymada, the Mother’s Day box includes their Strawberry basque burnt cheesecake—a limited-edition dessert they’ve brought back for the holiday, also available plain. To make it even more special, you may conveniently add a bouquet of flowers by Fleur de Eloise.

Edsa Shangri-La’s “Mother Lode” of desserts boasts a spread of elegant treats, including a box of macarons, chocolate pralines, lychee rose entremet, and even a dainty strawberry mousse and lavender crémeux dessert with angel sponge and lemon syrup. 

Alternatively, treat mum to a Mother’s Day afternoon tea at the Lobby Lounge from May 6 to June 2, or head to Summer Palace on May 12 to indulge in an exclusive set menu for ten persons. Japanese favourite Senju, international outlet Heat, and the al fresco grill specialist Pool Bar will also offer special buffets for May 12. 

This Mother’s Day special has more than meets the eye. Opening the box reveals a bright red heart made with Auro Chocolate 64 per cent dark chocolate and a whimsical wooden mallet—but once the heart is smashed, mum will soon discover it is filled with many more miniature heart-shaped surprises, including 55 per cent dark chocolate, caramel, and hazelnut cookies.

Liven up your Mother’s Day spread with the Summer Picnic Cake from Flour Pot Manila. For this delightfully fruity cake, chef/owner Rhea Sycip layers their light, fragrant orange blossom sponge cake with buttercream infused with sweet mangoes and tart wild raspberries. The naked cake then gets a simple piping of their buttercream and is adorned with fresh flowers.

Spoil mum this Mother’s Day with the timeless desserts from M Bakery, all dressed up just for the holiday.
