Cover Japanese cult donut brand I'm donut? is opening at Ion Orchard this December

The nama donut phenomenon that has queued out the door in Tokyo, New York and Seoul makes its Singapore debut at Ion Orchard

If you have spent any time in Tokyo’s Daikanyama or scrolled past the queues snaking out of its New York outpost, you already know what I’m donut? is. For everyone else: this is your introduction to the Japanese donut brand that has steadily built a devoted following across some of the world’s most food-literate cities—and is now opening its first Singapore store at Ion Orchard this December.

Founded by chef Ryouta Hirako, I’m donut? started with a simple question: what could a donut actually be? The answer, as it turns out, is something lighter and more interesting than the usual donuts you’re used to. The brand’s signature nama donuts are handmade throughout—dough, creams and toppings all prepared in-house—and the result is a texture that is both familiar and surprising. Light, fluffy, with a springiness that gives way softly, these donuts are a hot favourite amongst many for good reason.
