Falling on November 4 this year, Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is India’s most important festival of the year that’s celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists. Known as the festival of lights, the name Deepavali pays tribute to the row (avali) of clay oil-wick lamps (deepa or dipa) that people light outside their homes to get rid of darkness. The holiday takes place on the day of the new moon—a time when darkness is everywhere—and these lamps are believed to help dispel darkness and bring goodness and purity.

Chaat
For one night only, Chaat at Rosewood Hong Kong will be serving a tasting menu specially created by chef Manav Tuli on November 4. Inspired by the Hindu tradition of sharing mountains of food with friends and family during Diwali, the meal will feature a family-style Tandoori Kebab Platter which includes lamb boti kebab with mint chutney, tamarind-glazed tandoori pork ribs and tandoori foie gras.
Other dishes such as lobster rasam, a South Indian-style spicy lobster soup, as well as a pan-fried Kerala-style halibut pollichathu with a side of butternut squash will also be served. For dessert, the chef will be putting a special spin on the classic Eton mess, incorporating traditional Indian strained and spiced yoghurt with berries into the classic English treat.
