The weekend is right around the corner—these are the best hangovers and where to get them, according to the city’s top bartenders

We’ve all been there: eyes squinting at the morning light, head pounding like a bassline from the night before, stomach doing somersaults. The aftermath of a great night out can be brutal, but recovery is possible—and can be delicious.

We asked some of Metro Manila’s top bartenders to share their go-to hangover cures, from greasy comfort food to revitalising soups. Whether you need to sweat it out, soak it up or sip your way back to life, here’s where to get the best hangover cures in Metro Manila, according to bartenders.

Founder, Big Fuzz

“I’d have Marudori’s yuzu tsukemen every post-drinking morning if I could. How I wish they’d extend their hours so I could visit right after my shifts!” (Laughs)

Brand ambassador, Don Papa Rum

“Truthfully, I no longer believe there is a cure apart from eventually metabolising the alcohol, but if my hangover allows me the strength to peel myself off my bed, I will probably hobble towards Bacolod Chicken Parilla in the Scout area. Inasal, garlic rice and a bowl of kansi; just calm enough for my infuriated stomach lining, but also enough to satiate the sodium kick I would be craving.”

3. David Ong

Managing partner, The Curator Coffee & Cocktails, Oto, Po & Pilar, Gaea, EDSA Beverage Design Group, #YWK at the Grid, Pourhouse Hospitality

“It’s a combination of Berocca, a banana, Gatorade Blue Bolt, #YKWRoasters espresso with milk and Oyasumi’s iekei or tomato ramen! Personally, I look for something greasy and soupy; this is both, with a rich, umami tonkotsu broth. It’s easily my favourite bowl of ramen in the city.”

4. Ron Cruz

Co-owner, Fat Cat

“Not exactly a cure, but preventative, I guess—having a tapsilog from Pares Point hits different after you’ve had a couple of drinks already. I know you should avoid heavy and oily food for hangovers, but different strokes for different folks.”

5. Royce Pua

Partner, Recraft and Bar Flora; beverage consultant, Izakaya Geronimo, Carlo’s, Made Nice and more

“The best cure for a hangover is prevention! (Laughs) And if you can time it properly, McDonald’s sausage McMuffin with egg meal (get the hash brown), extra BBQ sauce and a double cheeseburger with extra cheese always does the trick. It’s accessible, familiar and friendly.”

6. Kate Osmillo

Managing partner, Raion

Chinese beef noodles from Chinese Beef Noodle House at Makati Avenue. The restaurant serves plenty of options, but what I really enjoy most are the beef noodle soup in clear broth (also available in spicy broth) alongside some dim sum for the full experience. The hot broth clears out my palate and delivers a somewhat fresh feeling. The noodles are authentic and homemade, giving them a chewy bite. All this with the right amount of beef, so you get a good meal in just one bowl.”

Roti Shop’s bak kut teh with a side of tofu salad, and George and Onnie’s Kurobuta sinigang—total comfort food. Hot, savoury, a little sour… hits all the right spots.”

8. Rian Asiddao

Brand ambassador, Diageo Philippines; co-founder, Bar by East, The Spirits Library and Flo All Day Drinking

“I consider Oto’s spicy garlic prawn pasta to be my hangover cure! After a long night of drinks at bars, I look forward to having it. So delicious!”

9. Niko Tiutan

Beverage director, Ito

“I rarely get hangovers since I don't go out drinking very often. However, when I do, I always look for ramen the next day. My current favourite is Ramen Ron’s ukokkei miso chashu ramen with Hokkaido butter, sweet corn and aji tamago. It’s rich and comforting with a heavy broth. Soup-based dishes are the best when you want to recover!”

10. Cedric Mendoza

Co-owner, Recraft and Somewhere Quiet; managing partner, Bar Flora; brand ambassador, Maison Ferrand

“‘Prevention is better than a hangover cure’—an adage that I try to live by in this spirit-forward industry. Waking up from a night of drinking without splitting a headache is the main goal, which is why I make sure that I take my meals regularly—usually a high-carb diet paired with an ice-cold, tall glass of water (or maybe more!)—but if I dont get to eat beforehand, I will embrace the hangover with a feel-good movie and a tub of ice cream. My favourite: Carmen’s Best salted caramel!” (Laughs)

11. Kia Opeda

Brand ambassador, Martell; cocktail specialist, Pernod Ricard Philippines

“Pho! I would get a large brisket pho from Pho Hoa on Grab so I could comfortably recover at home. The clear bone broth fixes me right up and clears the sins of last night from my stomach, and the meat and rice noodles are light but filling enough to feel that all’s right in the world again.”

12. Kenneth Bandivas

Partner, The Grasshopper Bar and The Spirits Library

“I would recommend Patpat’s Kansi. I recently had this when Yuya Nagamine of SG Club was in town. By far, the best kansi I’ve had. A great hangover cure once you wake up from a drinking session.”
