The Speyside distillery releases a limited-edition single malt celebrating the 1971 James Bond film, deepening The Macallan’s long-running association with cinema’s most famous spy
Good news, James Bond fans. The Macallan has unveiled a new limited-edition single malt that pays tribute to one of cinema’s most enduring characters. Created to mark the 55th anniversary of the 1971 Diamonds Are Forever film, the release continues the distillery’s long-running association with the world of James Bond.
The expression, titled The Macallan Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release, is an 18-year-old single malt distilled in 2007 and bottled at 45.5 per cent ABV. The whisky was matured in a combination of sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks alongside American oak casks previously used for red wine—an unusual element for the distillery and a nod to the film’s references to wine connoisseurship.
Crafted by The Macallan whisky maker Russell Greig, the release explores layered maturation to create a profile said to carry notes of oak, vanilla, dried fruits and spice, with hints of caramel and cocoa on the palate.

The limited bottling also reflects the brand’s longstanding presence in film and television, where The Macallan has appeared in more than 290 productions. Its connection to the Bond franchise in particular has grown stronger in recent years, following a six-bottle 60th anniversary collection released in 2022.
Initially launched through The Macallan’s website, estate boutique and select travel-retail locations including London’s Heathrow Airport, the anniversary expression is expected to roll out to selected retailers worldwide from March.
For collectors and Bond enthusiasts alike, the release adds another chapter to the evolving relationship between one of Scotland’s most recognisable single malts and the suave spy who made whisky part of cinematic lore.
