The indulgent 10-course menu showcases reinterpretations of timeless dishes the restaurant is known best for

To commemorate a decade of fine Italian fare, Marini's on 57 presents the Founder's Menu, featuring 10 of the restaurant's most significant dishes. Each of the 10 courses was handpicked by Cavaliere Modesto Marini, founder and owner of The Marini’s Group as well as his wife Elizabeth Marini, for reasons ranging from sentimental value to popularity.

Boasting fabulous city views and contemporary Italian fare, the restaurant is best known for fine ingredients and fresh produce. Read on to take a peek inside the launch of the extensive Founder's Menu.

Our night begins with sips of cocktails and chatter in the vibrant lounge before we are ushered into the dining room. Located by the window, our table overlooks a breathtaking view of the KL city skyline. Fegato Grasso, a bite-sized starter of buttery pan-seared foie gras is the first course, balanced with a dollop of sweet fig jam.

Our appetites sufficiently whet, we can hardly wait for the next dish, which is revealed to consist of two components. First, silky soft scrambled eggs and Parmigiano foam are hidden in a delicate egg shell, scooped out with a delicate teaspoon. On the side, feta cream is masterfully topped with a garden of seasonal vegetables.

"This dish was inspired by a trip to Italy, where assorted vegetables were spread out across a table for us to graze on," Elizabeth enthuses.

While the dish in front of me is clearly a scaled-down version of the edible garden she fondly speaks of, nothing is toned down about the rich feta and the sweetness from the vegetables.

While delving into the details of each of the 10 dishes would spoil the surprise of experiencing the Founder's Menu first hand, worthy of an honourable mention is the Carpaccio Marinato, a dish the Marinis often enjoy as a weekend breakfast, which sees tender slices of cured wagyu adorned with smooth ricotta cream, sweet confit cherry tomatoes and textural Shimeji mushrooms.

Following the opening dishes, we are presented with a choice of pasta—Tagliatelle al Tartufo (truffle tagliatelle) or Cappellini All’astice (angel hair with lobster). I opt for the latter, which consists of delicate angel hair pasta tossed in a rich tomato sauce which coats each noodle, topped with succulent, meaty lobster.

Mains come in the form of a delicately seared cod fish, served with an orange saffron sauce dotted with caviar that oddly reminds me of passion fruit, as well as the Japanese Wagyu Sirloin Marble 5. With a personal affinity for savoury over sweet, the truffle-infused tiramisu is an ideal ending to the meal.

Cavaliere Modesto Marini’s love for Italian fare shines through the well-curated menu, which stays true to the food he loves. While the Founder’s Menu will be available from October 1 until the end of the year, Marini's on 57 will also be having a range of events throughout the month to celebrate its anniversary, including a bartending competition, bartender guest shifts, and an anniversary party.
