Vamos de Tapeo!

This month, La Rambla has announced the return of founding chef Rafa Gil to helm its kitchen, taking over from Ferran Tadeo's five-year stint as executive chef. Gil was responsible for the restaurant's first iteration, Catalunya, opened in both Hong Kong and Singapore in 2012. In the intervening years, he has held roles at The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, Keraton at The Plaza in Jakarta, and W Hong Kong.

Now, the semi-finalist on Netflix's The Final Table is revamping the menu, bringing back signatures like bomba de la Barceloneta (breaded and fried mashed potato balls with meat filling); pulpo gallego octopus; Escalivada Aspik with foie and smoked eel; and suquet de peix, a Catalan fish stew topped with blue lobster. New tapas, paella, meat and seafood dishes also abound, alongside a selection of cocktails designed by The Diplomat's John Nugent

Green Blessings

Online food marketplace Calioo is once again hosting a market for small and local businesses, taking place this time at Times Square. Held in collaboration with Omni Seafood from February 25 to March 6, the event is centred around sustainable and conscious food offerings, with 30 merchants selling everything from freshly baked cakes, cookies, pastries, and bread to hand made specialty sauces, local Chinese delicacies, and street food.

On top of their own plant-forward treats, several merchants will also be serving up exclusive dishes based on Omni Fillet, Omni Golden Fillet and OmniTuna plant-based meats. Expect the likes of an Omni Golden Fillet gua bao from Explicit Spices, an Omni Fillet kimbap from Bien Eat, a tuna cinnamon roll from 2Bites, and more.

All Veg'd Out

Building on its Year of the Veg campaign in 2021, Ovolo Hotels has pledged this week to become the first hotel brand globally to commit to a vegetarian-lead offering. With a number of Ovolo venues already serving plant-based cuisine, the group's pledge means that it will become entirely vegetarian across all hotel restaurant venues in Hong Kong, Bali and Australia. New menus have already launched at said venues, while the hospitality group has also published a white paper it calls the Plant'd Playbook that lays bare their insights for those considering making the switch to a vegetarian-lead offerings or integrating it into their existing offering.

In Hong Kong, diners will be able to get a taste of this approach at Ovolo Central's vegetarian restaurant Veda, which is offering a weekend champagne brunch (HK$598) that comprises six sharing plates, a free-flow live dosa bar, and a dessert platter.
