Hansik Goo Completes Its Move To The Wellington

After a brief hiatus of just over a month, Hansik Goo has completed its move from Lyndhurst Terrace to The Wellington in Sheung Wan, where it will be just an elevator ride away from fellow ZS Hospitality venues such as Whey and Miss Lee. The new and larger venue features an updated look that was inspired by bu-eok, or the traditional Korean kitchen and hearth, brought to reality by Korean studio Area Plus. The menu has also undergone a refresh, characterised by a more audacious approach towards creative Korean cuisine and wine pairings ideated by the world's first Korean master sommelier, Kim Kyung-moon.

To mark the occasion, chef-founder Mingoo Kang is currently in Hong Kong to host a sold-out four-hands dinner with The Chairman's Danny Yip on the nights of August 14 and 15. Kang himself will be serving guests at Hansik Goo until August 19. To make your booking, call +852 2798 8768 or send an email to info@hansikgoo.hk.

Crowne Plaza Hong Kong in Causeway Bay is making a concerted effort to elevate its dining offerings with the opening of Giacomo, a southern Italian fine dining venue. Helmed by chef Keith Yam, whose career has seen him cook at the likes of Tosca di Angelo and Otto e Mezzo, the 38-seat restaurant will serve seafood-focused dishes like Brittany blue lobster with Sardinian gnocchi, langoustine with matsutake mushroom, and red prawn spaghetti chitarra. To accompany, a curated wine collection of award-winning Italian labels like Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Bolgheri 2017, Capichera IGT 2019, and Pietradolce Archineri DOC Etna Bianco 2019 will be on offer.

Giacomo launches with lunch menus of two, three and four courses priced from HK$480 up, with sommelier wine pairing options priced from HK$280. A gourmet degustation menu of six courses is regularly rotated to showcase premium, seasonal signature dishes, priced at HK$1,580 plus HK$680 with wine pairing.

G Room Serves Tapas Within Meditative Confines

Meditation rooms with floor-to-ceiling video screens are a common feature in sci-fi films featuring lonely astronauts, from Cillian Murphy in Sunshine to Brad Pitt in Ad Astra, and a visit to Gaia Group's newly opened fusion tapas lounge G Room will show you why. Taking a page out of these movies, the curving walls of this restaurant are covered in 360-degree, ultra-high definition screens that cycle between calming vistas of a snow-covered forest, an aerial nightscape of Hong Kong, Galapagos turtles gliding underwater, and more.

While the concept sounds gimmicky at first glance, it is surprisingly well-executed; more dynamic and dazzling than a conventional view out the window, the screen changes elicit oohs and aahs from diners, while a soothing soundtrack of indie folk plays out in the background.

Meanwhile, the menu mixes Southeast Asian and Spanish flavours in the likes of whole Boston lobster paella, abalone and sea urchin pasta, and 63-degree poached Japanese egg with shaved truffle and Iberico ham. The cocktail list strikes a balance between easy-drinking classics and creative originals like the refreshing Wasagin (Roku gin, wasabi, persimmon liqueur, cucumber) and the savoury Jamón Rock (Serrano ham fat-washed bourbon, maple syrup).

G Room offers a six-course set lunch tasting menu for HK$268 per person, although the afternoon tea set (HK$398 per person) is expected to be the main attraction for any Hongkonger who similarly feels like an astronaut stuck on a long journey into space without escape.

Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant The Pearl is opening on top of Tsim Sha Tsui's Attitude Hotel this August. Designed by co-founder and interior designer Rolland Cheung, the moody restaurant is divided into a bar, main dining room and outdoor lounge. The menu is centred around easygoing crowd favourites like Japanese uni linguine, sous-vide abalone with angel hair pasta, and braised blue mussels in spicy soup, while a concise cocktail menu of house signatures is also available alongside shisha options to be enjoyed on the terrace.

Bombay Dreams Relocates After 18 Years

In Hong Kong's Indian dining landscape, Bombay Dreams is a veritable institution, having served the Central crowd since 2002. This month, the restaurant marks a major new development with the completion of its move a few blocks down Wyndham Street, with new menus, a whiskey trolley and cocktails to boot. Helming the kitchen is chef Irshad Ahmed Qureshi, who belongs to the 7th generation of a family of chefs hailing from Uttar Pradesh in northern India. His family is one of a special line of chefs, also referred to as Khansama, who were historically appointed to serve the Nawabs (viceroys) and the royal family of the Mughal empire.
