Whether you're looking to dine out for lunch or are celebrating at home, we're letting you know the best Chinese New Year menus to indulge in this year

With the recent announcement that social distancing restrictions in Hong Kong have been extended to February 3, it's looking less and less likely that Chinese New Year celebrations will take their usual shape this year. But while dining out for dinner and gathering in large groups may be quite literally off the table, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate the occasion with your nearest and dearest. From traditional menus, to modern twists and at-home sets, we're letting you know the best places to eat in Hong Kong this Chinese New Year.

Dining Out

Man Ho Chinese Restaurant

If you’re a lover of dim sum, don’t miss Man Ho’s specially made creations. Available for both dine-in and take away, highlights include baked dried abalone puff with wild mushrooms and baked Wagyu beef puff pastries.

The restaurant will also be serving an array of auspicious specialities to ring in the new year. Symbolising prosperity, good wealth and luck, dishes include Yusheng Abalone, braised dried oysters with black, braised oxtail in sweet and sour sauce and pan-fried Hokkaido scallop with sea urchin in lobster sauce.

T’ang Court

With three-Michelin stars under its belt, T’ang Court promises to be an excellent choice for your Lunar New Year celebration. Chinese Master Chef Kwong Wai Kwong together with T’ang Court’s Executive Chef Wong Chi Fai have developed a delectable menu full of Cantonese delights, including braised Alaskan crab meat and bamboo fungus rolls filled with bird’s nest in pumpkin soup with crab roe; and sauteed scallops with asparagus, yellow fungus in taro.

T’ang Court will also be serving an array of meticulously created specialty dim sum for the occasion, including baked pastries filled with diced semi-dried oyster; black mushroom and Yunnan ham, steamed diced abalone; fish maw and black mushroom dumplings and more.

Hutong

With its stunning harbour views, Hutong is always a favourite when celebrating, with this Chinese New Year no exception.

The special 10-dish lunch feast begins with traditional lo hei featuring yellowfin tuna and Hokkaido scallops, with other highlights including Hutong’s signature crispy de-boned lamb ribs; and black truffle chicken served with Yunnan ham fried rice. Diners can take their experience to the next level by opting to enjoy sommelier’s Ao Yun wine pairing, which includes a glass of Champagne.

For an at-home experience, Hutong presents a special seafood poon choi in spicy and sour broth. Created to serve four to six people, the dish features Mandarin fish, Hokkaido scallops, tiger prawns, sun-dried oysters, chilled tofu, shiitake mushrooms, mung bean and bamboo shoots––with meat-lovers also able to add 180 grams of prime angus beef.

Chilli Fagara

If spice is more your thing, indulge this Chinese New Year in a delicious and decadent array of mains at Chilli Fagara. The Sichuan hot spot is serving a special menu for the occasion, complete with dishes created with traditional ingredients to wish diners prosperity, wealth and good fortune in the year of the golden Ox––from crispy-fried golden sea bream topped with smoked Sichuan eagle tea leaves, to whole cooked Boston red lobster and warming hot and sour soup with oxtail.

Ying Jee Club

From lavish set menus to special à la carte and dim sum items, there is plenty to enjoy at Michelin-starred Ying Jee Club. The standout dish of the tempting eight-course Chinese New Year menu is the wok-fried lobster with shallot and scallion, followed by the auspicious braised e-fu noodles with enoki mushroom and conpoy.

With social distancing restrictions in place, opt for a dim sum lunch and enjoy the likes of steamed pork dumpling with shrimp and whole abalone; and pan-fried turnip cake with conpoy and air dried meat.

Zuma

If you're looking for a less traditional take on Chinese New Year dining, Zuma will be offering an array of specials for the occasion. Still promising good fortune and prosperity, dishes include roasted lobster with garlic, shiso and ponzu; Chilean sea bass with green chili ginger dressing; and robata grilled ribeye steak with wafu sauce and garlic crisps.

Over the celebratory weekend, Zuma's famed brunch will also be served as usual, complete with free-flow Champagne and plenty of sushi, sashimi and other fresh seafood.

The Chinese Library

With social distancing restrictions holding strong you can still indulge in The Chinese Library's Weekend Dim Sum Lunch this Chinese New year. Featuring a range of traditional and innovative dumplings, from bao, to shao mai and cheung fun, along with hot dishes and dessert, the two-hour dim sum feast also includes free-flow Veuve Clicquot Champagne to keep the celebratory atmosphere alive.

The restaurant will also be serving five limited-edition Lunar dishes over the long weekend, which include lobster lo Hei; braised abalone and fish maw with black moss; and deep-fried sesame balls.

Chop Chop

Putting its own spin on the classic Poon Choi, Chop Chop will be serving its own auspicious dish in the style of traditional clay pot rice. The festive Chinese New Year Chop Chop Poon Choi Clay Pot Rice will feature ingredients such as abalone, sea cucumber, fish maw, black hairy moss with dried oyster, stuffed courgette with dry scallop, eggs, and deep-fried taro with bean curd sticks. The Legacy House

Rosewood's The Legacy House will be offering mouthwatering celebratory menus and hearty delicacies to impress this Chinese New Year. Coupled with sweeping views of the city, diners can enjoy the restaurant's unique take on modern cuisine and fine dining with the special lunch menu, which includes steamed minced fish dumplings––an elevated version on the classic Shunde minced fish soup; along with purple sweet potato mochi with deep fried milk custard.

An enticing menu of Chinese New Year dim sum and dishes will also be available for the celebrations, including “The Three Lucky Stars”, handmade steamed lobster tricolour dumplings; "The New Year of Fortune”, wok-fried wagyu beef with black truffle and oat; and “A Felicitous Start”, braised oyster and fish curd in abalone sauce.

The Legacy House will also have Fu Gui Chicken and Prosperity Poon Choi available to pre-order for takeaway.

Ho Lee Fook

Ho Lee Fook will be ushering in the new year with its signature Yee Sang Platter. Available to eat in or to order for takeaway celebrations, the colourful Singaporean dish will be made with a sweet and sour yuzu and plum dressing drizzled on top of Hamachi sashimi and a confetti of green daikon, beetroot, carrot, cucumber, green shallots, coriander, sesame seeds, peanuts and crispy wonton skins.

When: February 2 to February 15, 2021. Orders must be placed by February 10.

Smoke & Barrel

American barbecue and smokehouse Smoke & Barrel is putting its own untraditional twist on poon choi, with its special Chinese New Year set, which includes smoked 12-hour brisket, Japanese pork belly, Texas baby back ribs, homemade sausage, smoked chicken marinated shitake mushroom, braised small cabbage and mustard greens and pickled winter turnip. The dish is followed up by a dessert of Hong Kong milk tea custard and smoked bourbon, goji berry and Chinese mandarin.

The restaurant will also be serving a special whole smoked and roasted goose for the occasion, complete with its own blend of secret spices and glazed with sorghum molasses and hong kong honey (48-hours pre-ordering required).

Enjoy a Spanish-style celebratory feast at home with 22 Ship's takeaway set. Created for four people, the menu features everything from Spanish cold cuts to cheeses, with larger dishes of grilled octopus with mojo picon and potato foam; whole grilled turbot with black potatoes and coriander mojo; and half roasted suckling pig with grilled gem lettuce and piquillo peppers.

The set also includes not one but two burnt Basque cheesecakes to sate any sweet cravings.

Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong

With numerous options available for online ordering to enjoy at home, the Ritz-Carlton is also offering some special Chinese New Year dining options for takeaway. 

Michelin-starred Tin Lung Heen will be serving a roast for four, complete with marinated chicken in soy sauce; sautéed kale with ginger sauce; braised pork belly; and a dessert of chilled mango cream with sago and pomelo. Guaranteed to keep you warm is temperatures drop, the hotel is also offering a classic poon choi set for takeaway––boasting 18 premium delicacies and served with both soup and rice.

Ring in the Year of the Ox at home with Ali Oli’s New Year Set Menus. Choose from either the Good Fortune set (for six or 12) or the Golden Ox set (for six) which include a range of Asian and Western dishes––with both set menus beginning with vegan radish cake to satisfy vegans and meat-lovers alike.

La Rambla By Catalunya

In the mood for Tapas? La Rambla By Catalunya will have you covered with its special at-home dinner menus for two, four and eight people.
