It's corn! The viral video and song that features a kid who really likes corn has sparked worldwide corn mania

“For me, I really like corn,” says a young boy in earnest during an interview on the popular Instagram account Recess Therapy. What started as an adorable declaration of this child's love for corn is now one of the latest trending videos that have gone viral on social media (watch the full video below).

Now, complete with a musical mash-up called “It's Corn” that has been produced with snippets from the interview, the internet seems to have united over this humble vegetable. In light of this new food obsession, we went looking for the best corn dishes in Hong Kong and found some rather tempting options.

Chef Richard Ekkebus takes corn to a whole new level with this dish at Amber. The sweet Okinawan corn is cold pressed and matched with rich taiyouran egg yolk before it's layered under seawater foam, Kristal Schrenki caviar and a thin tuile of corn topped with the fragrant zest of sudachi.

At Chino, the corn avocado tostada takes a fried corn tortilla and tops it with grilled corn, creamy avocado, salsa, cherry tomatoes, black bean and cotija cheese. The result is refreshing, crunchy, sweet, savoury and all sorts of tasty. They also have grilled corn smothered in chipotle kewpie and cotija which is always worth the mess.

The charred corn salad at Cruise incorporates prawns, cherry tomatoes, egg, peanuts, chilli and lime for an addictive mix of sweet, sour and slightly spicy flavours which makes for a great starter or side but is a star all on its own too. The dish is available as an a la carte item and on the weekend brunch menu.

A sweet addition to this list comes in the form of a sweet corn sundae. The American grill and smokehouse's chef, Mario Tolentino, has created a real treat made up of corn cake, corn ice cream, maraschino cherries, and caramel popcorn. As the “corn kid” would say so himself: it's corn-tastic!
