With the June school holidays and a multitude of fun festivals, installations and exhibitions, this may be the biggest and most exciting month in 2022 so far

We are officially halfway through 2022 and while we may not be celebrating any major holidays in June, we do have the annual month-long school holidays as well as a slew of festivals, exhibitions and performances that will be taking place this month.

1. Gastrobeats

What: If you are mourning the end of Ramadan bazaars, don’t worry because this June, the Bayfront Event Space near Marina Bay will be transformed into an urban lifestyle playground for creative talents in the culinary, arts, and entertainment world.

In what will be the largest festival to be opened to the public since Covid-19 hit Singapore, guests will be able to enjoy live performances, delicious food from renowned local and international culinary personalities, graffiti art, and a massive food bouncy castle.

2. Baroque House Bourbon Tasting Private Dinner

What: Delve into the history of Rowell Road at the rejuvenated Baroque House, a 102-year-old conservation shophouse. Designed to preserve its incredible heritage, the space reveals its secrets progressively through your journey.

While owner Sonia Ong has curated an array of artistic experiences, we recommend the bourbon tasting private dinner, where you can indulge in a three-course omakase (catering to all dietary requirements) and a tasting of three bourbons, including Wild Turkey Rare Breed and Maker’s Mark 46.

3. Movies in the Sky by Marina Bay Sands

What: If you are looking for a unique date idea this June, you have to check out Movies in the Sky which will be taking place at the iconic Skypark Observation Deck in Marina Bay Sands. Guests will be invited to bring their own headphones so they can connect to the audio while they lounge in custom-designed recliner floor sofas. 

A total of 12 movies will be screened over the two months and it promises an exciting lineup.

4. Gallery Wellness Festival

What: In a first for Singapore, the National Gallery will be launching a Gallery Wellness Festival this month that will see guided movement workshops, audio tours of paintings and sculptures, bullet journaling in response to artworks and sound baths presented in ways that will encourage the restorative power of art for holistic well-being.

5. iLight Singapore

What: iLiight Singapore, Asia’s leading sustainable light festival, will be returning this month for its eighth edition after a two-year hiatus and it is set to be bigger and better than ever before.

With creative light installations by professionals and student artists that aim to spark fresh perspectives on the environment and the world around us, this is one event you don’t want to miss.

6. Wellness Festival Singapore

What: The Wellness Sensorium is a multi-sensory pop-up with six zones offering innovative and instagrammable experiences such as spin orchestra, light and sound bath, stone rituals and more. The Wellness Sensorium is open to the public and will be followed by the first-ever Wellness Symposium led by Enterprise Singapore. The Wellness Symposium will bring together business leaders, industry experts and professionals to discuss spiritual, mental and preventative health. 

The Sensorium is also part of a greater Wellness Festival that will feature 10 days of over 120 physical and virtual wellness offerings from fitness studios, attractions, hotels, shopping malls, artists and arts groups and other wellness and lifestyle businesses.

7. Artscience Museum's We Live in an Ocean of Air Installation

What: This month, Artscience Museum will be launching its latest virtual reality exhibition, We Live in an Ocean of Air. The installation is an immersive multi-sensory art installation created by Marshmallow Laser Feast, one of the world’s leading experiential art collectives.

It highlights the symbiotic relationship between animals, plants, and humans and allows us to confront our ecosystems in a unique and immersive way.

8. Pink Dot 2022

What: Singapore’s annual pride celebrations are returning this month for a one-day rain or shine event at Hong Lim Park. On the day, supporters will get to enjoy performances, speeches, food trucks, educational booths and more.

9. +Pavilion Exhibition

What: Presented in conjunction with Swiss Weeks 2022 at the Marina Barrage, the +Pavilion exhibition is one that showcases innovative and sustainable designs, building materials and solutions. At the exhibit, visitors will be able to see sustainable construction and designs by Vitra in collaboration with Tip Ton Re, Cork Family, Eames Elephant and Stoll Tool.

10. YOC International Youth Opera Festival 2022

What: From November 2021 to March this year, New Opera Singapore’s youth wing ‘Youth Opera Comique’ hosted an International Vocal Competition showcasing the talents of singers aged 21 and below from Singapore. Now, the finalists will be performing live at the Victoria Concert Hall for the YOC’s International Youth Opera Festival 2022. The three-day festival will see multiple performances by the likes of Dwayne Lau, Raminta Lampsatis and more.

11. (Re)births by Alliance Française de Singapour

What: It has been three years since a fire partially ravaged the Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Paris and in honour of this, Alliance Française de Singapour will be launching a spectacular exhibition on the construction and successive restorations of one of the most iconic symbols of France throughout the centuries. 

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of talks, film screenings and workshops.

12. Sota Studio Theatre's Peter & Blue’s School Holiday

What: Following its incredible success digitally, Peter & Blue’s School Holiday will be returning but this time, it will be performed live on stage. 

Created by artistic director Janek Schergen, Peter & Blue’s School Holiday, will thrill children with its playful storyline and whimsical choreography. Kids will also get to participate in a meet-and-greet with the dancers after each performance.

13. Tiger Crystal Fire Stages

What: Now that Covid-19 restrictions are loosening back up, we can now look forward to the resumption of live music and festivals once again. This month, Tiger Beer is kicking it off with Tiger Crystal Fire Stages, a beer and music festival that will see a stellar cast of iconic superstars and budding home-grown talents such as Benjamin Kheng, 53A, Jack & Rai and more all while you enjoy an ice-cold pint.

14. Singapore Discovery Centre's Jurassic June

What: Have you got a little explorer on your hands? If so, this June, you have to check out Singapore Discovery Centre’s Jurassic June programme.

Kids can embark on dino eco-hunts to learn about dinosaurs and how we can protect the environment. They will also be able to create their own 3D dinosaurs and more at the centre.

15. In Search of Meaning: Calligraphy Series

What: This month, Gallery 1819 will be hosting established artist Aaron Gan as he brings his latest collection to the public. 

With work that has been showcased both locally and internationally, Gan’s work is highly valued for its technique and skill. In this exhibition, Gan extends beyond the techniques of watercolour painting to reach the very essence of humanity which makes it an exhibition you can’t afford to miss.

16. National Heritage Board’s Night-Themed Children’s Season

What: If you’re looking for something really exciting to do, join the National Heritage Board in its first-ever night-themed children’s season this June school holidays. This year’s edition features an exciting line-up of family-friendly museum programmes. Kids will have the opportunity to explore participating museums after sunset.

They can participate in storytelling sessions, craft and more during the season.

17. Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre’s Cultural Extravaganza 2022

What: Back for its fifth year, Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) will be hosting a Cultural Extravaganza which will feature notable Notable local art groups like Bhaskar’s Arts Academy, Nine Years Theatre, Teng Ensemble, Jazz Association (Singapore), Ding Yi Music Company, and more.

With 14 digital and on-site programmes over 38 days, ranging from musicals, concerts, interactive exhibitions, and dance productions, the event is a must to visit this month.

18. Mount Faber Leisure Group's Wings of Time

What: Remember Wings of Time? The water and light show that used to take place in Sentosa? It is finally back and promises to be a real treat, especially for kids. The popular outdoor night show will now take place on Sentosa’s Siloso Beach and is set to be bigger and better than ever before for your kids.

19. 39+ Art Space's Group Show

What:  If you are a fan of Asian art, 39+ Art Space has recently launched a new exhibition that features five extraordinary Chinese contemporary artists such as Fang Wei, Wang Yi, Lin Ke, Zhang Yunyao and Su Chang. The group show marks a rare opportunity to view works by some of the most innovative and forward-thinking practitioners for the first time in Singapore and is certainly a must-see.

20. Kiztopia's Children's Festival 2022

What: This year’s Children’s Festival by Kiztopia is one you cannot miss. The festival will be held at Gardens by the Bay this year and kids can enjoy going on a fun learning journey while getting to play sports carnival games and more.

21. Visit Epigram Books

What: After a tough few years of attempting to stay afloat by any means possible during the pandemic, Epigram finally has a place it can call a permanent home once again and if you are a reader, you need to check it out.

Epigram is now located in the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) at Tanjong Pagar Distripark. With a gorgeous view of the port, there isn’t a better or more serene place to browse the latest in local literature.

22. The Choose Your Future AR Effect

What: In an attempt to help the public learn about the triple planetary threats of pollution and waste, nature and biodiversity loss and climate change, the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative, in collaboration with Meshminds, a team of young Singaporean developers and designers, have created an AR filter called Choose Your Future. 

Use this filter to make a pledge to protect our planet for future generations and spread the word for the cause.
