The long school holidays are finally upon us. Need to keep your kids entertained over the break? We have you covered with this list of fun and kid-friendly activities

By this weekend, parents and kids around the island will be marking the beginning of the month-long June school holidays. This was quite likely our favourite time of the year back when we were still in school for most of us.  

From taking short trips abroad to participating in fun kid-friendly activities around the island, there was never a shortage of fun.

1. Sota Studio Theatre's Peter & Blue’s School Holiday

What: Following its incredible success digitally, Peter & Blue’s School Holiday will be returning but this time, it will be performed live on stage. 

Created by artistic director Janek Schergen, Peter & Blue’s School Holiday, will thrill children with its playful storyline and whimsical choreography. Kids will also get to participate in a meet-and-greet with the dancers after each performance.

2. Singapore Discovery Centre's Jurassic June

What: Have you got a little explorer on your hands? If so, this June, you have to check out Singapore Discovery Centre’s Jurassic June programme.

Kids can embark on dino eco-hunts to learn about dinosaurs and how we can protect the environment. They will also be able to create their own 3D dinosaurs and more at the centre.

3. National Heritage Board’s Night-Themed Children’s Season

What: If you’re looking for something really exciting to do, join the National Heritage Board in its first-ever night-themed children’s season this June school holidays. This year’s edition features an exciting line-up of family-friendly museum programmes. Kids will have the opportunity to explore participating museums after sunset.

They can participate in storytelling sessions, craft and more during the season.

4. Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre’s Cultural Extravaganza 2022

What: As much as we want our kids to have fun over the holidays, we certainly want to keep their minds stimulated as well.

Back for its fifth year, Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) will be hosting a Cultural Extravaganza which will feature notable local art groups like Bhaskar’s Arts Academy, Nine Years Theatre, Teng Ensemble, Jazz Association (Singapore), Ding Yi Music Company, and more. Perfect if you have a slightly older kid who enjoys history and culture.

With 14 digital and on-site programmes over 38 days, ranging from musicals, concerts, interactive exhibitions, and dance productions, the event is a must to visit.

5. Mount Faber Leisure Group's Wings of Time

What: Remember Wings of Time? The water and light show that used to take place in Sentosa? It is finally back and promises to be a real treat, especially for kids. The popular outdoor night show will now take place on Sentosa’s Siloso Beach and is set to be bigger and better than ever before for your kids.

6. Visit Epigram Books

What: After a tough few years of attempting to stay afloat by any means possible during the pandemic, Epigram finally has a place it can call a permanent home once again and if you have readers for kids, you need to check it out.

Epigram is now located in the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) at Tanjong Pagar Distripark. With a gorgeous view of the port, there isn’t a better or more serene place to browse the latest in local literature.

7. Kiztopia's Children's Festival 2022

What: This year’s Children’s Festival by Kiztopia is one you cannot miss. The festival will be held at Gardens by the Bay this year and kids can enjoy going on a fun learning journey while getting to play sports carnival games and more.

8. 39+ Art Space's Group Show

What: This is another one for slightly older kiddos who love art and culture. If they are a fan of Asian art (or if you are trying to expose them to it), 39+ Art Space has recently launched a new exhibition that features five extraordinary Chinese contemporary artists such as Fang Wei, Wang Yi, Lin Ke, Zhang Yunyao and Su Chang.

The group show marks a rare opportunity to view works by some of the most innovative and forward-thinking practitioners for the first time in Singapore and is certainly a must-see.
