Disney+ releases the trailer and poster for Marvel Studio’s upcoming series Ms. Marvel which introduces the MCU’s first Muslim superhero

Disney+ finally drops the trailer and poster for Marvel Studio’s highly-anticipated new series Ms. Marvel. The streaming platform also reveals that the show will be released on June 8.

The trailer gives viewers a first look at the MCU’s newest superhero Kamala Khan, a Pakistani American teenager from New Jersey as she tries to balance high school life, her family and her emerging powers.

Kamala first appeared in the Marvel Comics in 2013 as a teenager who looks up to Captain Marvel or Carol Danvers. She later discovers that she also has superhuman abilities. The avid gamer and fan fiction writer turned superhero will be played by newcomer Iman Vellani who scored the role following an extensive casting process.

Other cast members include Saagar Shaikh as her older brother Aamir, Mohan Kapur and Zenobia Shroff play her parents Muneeba and Yusuf, Matt Lintz as Kamala’s best friend Bruno and Aramis Knight as Red Dagger.

The trailer kicks off with Kamala in her high school’s guidance counsellor’s office with the visuals accompanied by speech bubbles, hearts and even devil horns. Kamala is branded a “weirdo” by the people around her because of her big imagination. “Maybe they’re right. I spend too much time in fantasy land,” she says.

Later, fantasy becomes reality when Kamala gains cosmic powers. The trailer ends with Kamala saying, “I’m a superhero”.

Ms. Marvel will be directed by Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Kevin Feige, Louis D’ Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Bisha K. Ali all serve as executive producers.

‘Ms. Marvel’ premieres on June 5, exclusively on Disney+.
