It sees the return of Seo Kang-joon to the small screen after finishing his mandatory military service

Disney+ is looking to expand its original Korean content this year after releasing Snowdrop last year. Rookie Cops kicked off the streaming site’s 2022 Korean slate and now, there’s a new K-drama on the horizon.

Grid is the latest series in Disney+’s rapidly growing collection. The mystery thriller is also different from the other two titles that have already been released and promises to keep viewers at the edge of their seats.

Along with a star-studded cast—including the return of a popular actor—exciting plot and cliffhangers, there are many reasons why Grid is a must-watch. We break it all down below.

1. Seo Kang-joon makes his comeback

Seo Kang-joon was last seen in When the Weather is Fine in 2020, opposite Park Min-young. The actor then went on a hiatus for his mandatory military service.

Grid marks his first K-drama in two years and he’s expected to once again showcase his acting ability—this time in a mystery thriller.

He will take on the role of Kim Sae-ha, an employee of a mysterious government agency only known as the Bureau. He has spent the last 24 years tracking a notorious figure known as the Ghost.

2. An edge-of-your seat plot

Grid is looking to have viewers at the edge of their seats when it debuts on February 16. The fast-paced thrilling world of the K-drama centres around a group of people who are hot on the trail of a mysterious figure only known as the Ghost.

These individuals must work with a mysterious government organisation to track down the elusive figure and uncover why 24 years after creating the Grid system to protect the planet from devasting solar winds, the Ghost is now an accomplice to murder.

3. An all-star ensemble

Other than Seo Kang-joon, Grid also features Kim A-joong who will be playing a police detective, Jung Sae-byeok who’s also hot on the heels of the Ghost. She’s dragged into the pursuit after finding pertinent clues on an otherwise dead-end case.

Other cast members include Kim Moo-yul as Song Eo-jin, he appeared in Space Sweepers and will also be seen in Juvenile Justice later this month. Kim Sung-kyun from D.P. stars as Kim Ma-nok as well as Lee Si-young from Sweet Home as the mysterious Ghost.

4. It's penned by an award-winning writer

Grid is written by critically acclaimed writer, Lee Soo-yeon who previously worked on hits like Stranger, Life and Stranger 2. Lee won Best Screenplay for Stranger at the 54th Baeksang Arts Awards.

Like Grid, Stranger is also a mystery thriller so the K-drama is in good hands.

Grid will be helmed by Khan Lee, a novice director who only has one movie credit to his name, The Divine Movie 2: The Wrathful but it’s an action-packed title so it’ll be interesting to see how the director will bring a similar vibe into his TV show directing debut.
