Limited to just 200 pieces, Vacheron Constantin's Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-thin sports a new azure dial that continues the series’ legacy of travel
The heartbeat of travel and adventure pulses within Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas collection, which is now celebrating its 30th anniversary since its launch in 1996. The initial model was considered successors to the renowned 222, and it is from there that its pedigree can be traced. To commemorate the occasion, the Swiss watchmaker has unveiled a new interpretation limited to just 200 pieces. It features a new, striking shade of azure blue, evoking the clear sky and a wide expanse, both ripe for exploration.

The first generation of the Overseas was considered a successor to 1977’s 222. The 1975 Chronomètre Royal would also influence this and later generations, which have steadily introduced a number of complications and stylistic changes, all while keeping its inherent spirit of travel. The Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-thin Ref 4300V/220G-H119 most notably sports a new azure dial, a few shades lighter than those of its earlier editions in 2016.

This new blue is noticeably lighter and less saturated, as the Maison endeavoured to capture the sense of escape and wonder. This elegantly complements the white-gold case, lending it a casual yet sophisticated edge. This model also features a tool-free interchangeable strap system—allowing the integrated white-gold bracelet to be replaced with either of the included white or denim blue rubber straps. Overall, this latest model has largely retained much of the collection’s visual character and architecture, such as the notched bezel and integrated bracelet, both of which reference the Maltese cross.

Inside is another familiar sight: the timepiece is powered by the Calibre 1120 QP/1 automatic movement, introduced during the third generation’s launch in 2016. At just 4.05mm thick, this allows the profile to be overall slimmer and thinner, all while beating at a frequency of 2.75 hz and bearing a respectable 40-hour power reserve. The finishing includes the signature Côtes de Genève and a compass rose engraved on the 22 karat gold oscillating weight, further reinforcing its intrepid identity.

This latest interpretation of one of Vacheron Constantin’s most beloved collections is an apt tribute, keeping intact its most crucial elements while refreshing the dial with a more unique—and arguably more mesmerising—azure hue.
