Highlighting some of the most exceptional timepieces brought in by Chanel for the exclusive viewing
At an exclusive event within the lush, cosy comforts of a private residence in Singapore last week, Chanel enveloped us in its enthralling watchmaking universe. It was a rare occasion where the French maison presented many of their 2023 novelties and other haute horlogerie creations here, allowing invited guests to truly immerse in and understand Chanel’s multifaceted watchmaking expertise that speaks to its rich savoir faire and technical mastery.
A wide range of Chanel’s high watches were on display, from the iconic J12 to the handsome Monsieur de Chanel and inimitable Première. Many of these timepieces showed the sheer scope of the maison’s watchmaking prowess. Intricate handcrafts were testament to Chanel’s skilled artistry, while elegant in-house movements were evidence of its horological know-how. In addition, there were some surprisingly bold technical innovations as well as signature design-led codes of the house that Chanel fans will know and love. Below, Tatler Singapore picks eight of the haute horlogerie creations that stood out to us.

Mademoiselle J12 Cosmic

One of the most whimsical pieces from Chanel’s Interstellar-themed collection this year, this Mademoiselle J12 Cosmic watch features an adorable cartoon Gabrielle Chanel. Against a starry night sky dial that was crafted with diamonds and glitter dust, Mademoiselle is dressed in an evening gown and has her arms held outwards to tell the time and create the illusion of her twirling around in the sky.
Monsieur de Chanel Tourbillon Meteorite

Limited to 55 pieces, the sleek Monsieur de Chanel Tourbillon Meteorite boasts the Calibre 5.1, Chanel’s first flying tourbillon movement for the men’s collection. Housed in a 42mm black ceramic case, this flying tourbillon is adorned with Chanel’s signature lion’s head emblem and is visible thanks to a partially openwork meteorite dial.
Mademoiselle Privé Pique‐Aiguilles

The watch that got everyone talking (and gushing) at the presentation was the Mademoiselle Privé Pique‐Aiguilles. This is a limited edition metier d’art collection of five models, of which one is already sold out. Designed to look like a dressmaker’s pincushion on the wrist and depicting codes of the house like lace camellias and quilted bags, this watch cannot fully be appreciated from pictures alone. When worn, the 55mm dome-shaped watch is light and comfortable and its many intricate details are incredibly mesmerising up close. Each timepiece is made up of many precious handcrafted elements, achieved through hours of skilled hand engraving, grand feu enamelling, traditional decalling and more.
Première Hyper Lucky Star

Gabrielle Chanel loved the five-pointed star. “I wanted to cover women in constellations,” she had said. This Première Hyper Lucky Star is an elegant lucky charm for the wrist, featuring a white gold comet set with six brilliant-cut diamonds that dangles from the crown and moves with the wearer. The case, dial and bracelet are also made in white gold and set with 278 diamonds.
J12 Hyper Cybernetic

Chanel’s creative use of gems in the J12 Hyper Cybernetic is unlike in any other jewellery watch. The case is made partly of matte black ceramic and partly of white gold. The white gold component is set with diamonds to create a pixelated motif that contrasts with the matte black case, bezel and dial. The result is a futuristic timepiece that looks almost like it is between the physical and digital realities.

Chanel’s take on secret watches tends to include sophisticated nods to its couture codes, and this one featuring Gabrielle Chanel’s love for buttons is no exception. Limited to only five pieces, this Hors Série Mademoiselle Privé Bouton Golden Pearl Motif ring features a gold half-pearl button that opens up to reveal a dial set with 42 brilliant-cut diamonds.
Première Camélia X-Ray

The clever use of clear sapphire crystal in the Première Camélia X-Ray allows the signature camellia design of the maison’s in-house Calibre 2 to take centre stage. Set with 246 brilliant-cut diamonds, the beautiful skeleton movement is framed by a clear sapphire crystal case and bezel for the first time.
Mademoiselle Privé Bouton Lion

Gabrielle Chanel’s star sign was Leo and this has informed the maison’s signature lion’s head motif, which features on the Mademoiselle Privé Bouton Lion. Sculpted in yellow gold, the regal lion adorns a button that conceals a black-lacquered dial and bezel set with 33 brilliant-cut diamonds.
