From striking innovation in mechanical luminescence to newly designed cases, Panerai’s new novelties from the recent Watches & Wonders and Milan Design Week are sure to catch one’s attention
Panerai again draws from its rich archives to explore new striking concept watches—combining heritage and innovation. Principals from the regional office of Panerai and its Philippine distributor Lucerne presented at a lunch held at the Solaire Resort North the novelties showcased at the Watches and Wonders and Milan Design Week last April 2024. Emphasis was put on innovation for this Italian-founded Swiss brand as it enters a new era after reaching its 30th anniversary in the luxury watch market.
Members of the press and watch enthusiasts got to see the latest iterations in the Submersible Elux Lab-ID, Luminor and Luminor Due, Luna Rossa, and Radiomir. Above The history of Panerai, a story made of innovation tracing back to 160 years ago
Founded in Florence in 1860 as a workshop, shop, and, subsequently, school of watchmaking, Panerai began as a supplier of precision instruments for the Italian Navy and its specialist diving corps. It was only until Richemont Group acquired it in 1997 that Panerai’s designs, like the iconic Luminor and Radiomir, became available to global watch enthusiasts.
Today, Panerai develops and crafts its movements and watches by seamlessly melding Italian design flair with Swiss horological expertise.
Here are some of the 2024 novelties of Panerai that should be under your radar:

Submersible Elux Lab-ID

Above The new Submersible Elux Lab-ID PAM01800 has a fully mechanical movement that can power light on demand—a breakthrough innovation
Central to Panerai’s creations is legibility in darkness and luminescence, as well as durability. In addition to reflecting the historic patented Elux Panerai invention, marked for features such as the ability to absorb light, reduce reflection, and spectacularly contrast with the markers and hands, the new Submersible Elux Lab-ID PAM01800 has a fully mechanical movement that can power light on demand—a breakthrough innovation.
The PAM01800 has a 50 bar water resistance and a 30-minute power light feature, all encapsulated in a 49mm case diameter.
With a simple gesture of opening the patented pusher-protector system and activating the mechanism through the pusher, the watch illuminates through a mechanism conceived by the Panerai Laboratorio di Idee. This feat is achieved through an innovative arrangement of four dedicated energy-storing barrels—out of six available in the movement—precisely engineered to unwind in a microgenerator that converts mechanical energy into electricity.
Luminor
Going back to basics, the Luminor PAM01624 has a classic signature Luminor case with a time-only display, a polished exterior with a nice brown leather strap that adds to its iconic look, and a colourful sunray-brushed green dial. This edition exudes simplicity and efficiency.
Meanwhile, Luminor Dieci Giorni GMT PAM01482 combines heritage and innovation. This edition includes functions focused on Chrono, GMT, and high-end complications. Set in a 44mm cushion-shaped case in polished steel, it comes with a blue sun-brushed sandwich dial with white SuperLumiNova® and an open sapphire crystal and steel case back, paired with Luminor’s distinctive iconic crown-protecting device. With it being paired with a dark blue alligator strap, the PAM01482 appeals to those who favour a blend of casual elegance and sportiness.
Lastly, the Luminor Quaranta BiTempo series expands the collection with the PAM01641, which has the GMT function in a precious material case. Here, Luminor’s signature gold tech—a material developed by combining platinum and copper to extend the timepiece’s lifetime with increased resistance to tarnishing—is powered by the automatic P.900/GMT calibre, renowned for reliability and with a three-day power reserve. This feature adds a new dimension to the watch’s usability, especially for those who track multiple time zones.

Panerai’s signature gold tech case has just been introduced in the Luminor Due TuttoOro PAM01494 and PAM01442. The editions’ impressive functionality and stylishness add to the alloy’s striking aesthetics and durability.
The PAM01494 is complemented by a white sun-brushed sandwich dial with beige Superluminova®, while the PAM01442 showcases a black sun-brushed sandwich dial that sets off the white Superluminova®. A see-through sapphire crystal case back offers a glimpse of the beautiful inner workings.
Luna Rossa
Panerai strengthened its Luna Rossa collection, which began when the brand became the official sponsor of the Luna Rosa Prada Pirelli team in the 2019 America’s Cup. Over these six years of cherished partnership, Panerai relentlessly developed collections of technical watches, either drawing inspiration from the technologies and materials used in the America’s Cup or from the insights and needs of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team.
The new editions showcase Panerai’s signature ceramitech case, inspired by a material and process originally used in high-performance competitive environments. The innovative use of ceramic-coated materials, developed through the high-demand, high-tech sailing world of Luna Rossa, represents an example of how cutting-edge technology and materials science can elevate performance in sports environments. This process, particularly the ceramization of steel parts to significantly reduce friction, enhances the efficiency and speed of racing boats and was a source of inspiration for Panerai.
PAM01466’s aesthetic evokes the spirit of the sea with its blue sun-brushed dial. At the same time, PAM01543 is resplendent with a white-matt grained dial, both accented with a decal of Luna Rossa and small red second hands, a subtle nod to the sailing team’s vivid identity. PAM10507 features the new SuperLumiNova® X2 and P.900 calibre for a three-day power reserve. Lastly, the PAM01579 was inspired by the America’s Cup’s technical innovation and indomitable spirit.
Innovation at Panerai extends to the user experience with the intuitive interchangeable strap system, an intuitive tool that allows the wearer to effortlessly switch between straps that accompany the timepiece. The first bi-material strap is a nod to the Luna Rossa with its grey tone and striking red accents, while the second black rubber strap offers a more subdued option.
Submersible QuarantaQuattro Navy SEALs
Merging the robustness of military design with the refined technicity synonymous with Panerai, the PAM01518 in the QuarantaQuattro Navy SEALs collection is encased in a 44mm brushed stainless steel case with a unidirectional rotating bezel and has a gradient dial that transitions from black to anthracite. Featuring a no-date design, the PAM01518 emphasises style and symmetry to offer a clean and uncluttered aesthetic that enhances legibility.
The PAM01513 uses a carbotech case, another signature Panerai composite material based on carbon fibre. Remarkably lightweight yet robust, it excels in resistance to external forces and corrosion.
Meanwhile, the PAM01521 is crafted from Titanium DLC, which makes it a potent combination of lightness and strength, ensuring durability and functionality.
Lastly, the Submersible Navy SEALs Titanio PAM01669 is tailored for the wrist of an adrenaline-seeking explorer. It features a 47mm case constructed from brushed titanium. It boasts a strength-to-wait ratio that makes it 40 per cent lighter and 60 per cent harder than steel.
The Submersible Navy SEALs collection comes with two straps: the first one, in a bi-material combination of rubber and Camo pattern textile. The second strap is made of black accordion rubber conveying a more understated yet sporty look.
Radiomir

Above Panerai Radiomir PAM01382 evokes a vintage charm with minimalist design powered by the high-end movement P.6000 calibre
Panerai’s Radiomir line takes pride in its vintage charm. This year’s addition to the collection boasts a 45mm diameter polished steel case with a water resistance of 100 metres. It’s minimalist with sunburst brushing, a typical lodge for numerical indices, bold hands, and the typical Panerai lettering. It features simplifications on the sandwich dial, which means the elements were embedded in its material and other 1920s design style inspirations that still prove functional. It is powered by the high-end movement P.6000 calibre with a three-day power reserve.
