Meet two new Panerai timepieces designed for aquatic endurance and wearability

The groundbreaking Carbotech, noted for its lightness and strength, has given the Panerai Luminor Marina a new boost in robustness. A proprietary material of the manufacture, Carbotech is formed from compressing carbon fibre sheets at high temperature and pressure along with Polyether Ether Ketone polymer. It is 64 per cent lighter than titanium—itself already a supremely light metal—and is remarkably resistant against corrosion, making it ideal for wear in saltwater. Its matte black surface features subtle uneven patterns, which makes each timepiece slightly different.

The Luminor Marina PAM01707 is powered by P.9010 automatic calibre with 3-day power reserve. The stop-seconds mechanism halts the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out, enabling precise time setting. Crucially, the watch is water-resistant up to 300m, ensuring peace of mind during the snorkel you have planned for later.

Panerai is the Official Sponsor of the Luna Rossa Team competing at the 38th America’s Cup, which will set sail in Naples next year. Two watches have been created to commemorate the event.

The first is Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768, limited to 500 pieces, it features a speed tachymeter scale that measures the boat’s average speed over a certain distance. To measure average speed, one begins by stopping and resetting the chronograph. At the start of the 1,000m mark, a single press of the pusher sets the hand in motion; at the journey’s end, a second press arrests it. The seconds hand, now resting upon the flange, reveals the hourly average.

The 44mm steel case is brushed, paired with a polished bezel. Dial matches the case too in sun-brushed silver. The chronograph counters are decorated in ‘azurage’ concentric circles for distinction.

For the first time in the Luna Rossa collection, it comes with a Velcro strap. The watch is also supplied with a rubber strap.

For the intrepid traveller with a love for beach getaways, Panerai introduces the Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791 in 40mm brushed steel with polished bezel. The 12-hour second time zone is indicated by a central hand with a red tip in the sail shape of the Luna Rossa boat. The small seconds counter at 9 o’clock features the ‘azurage’ design. The dial is in sunray silver.

The automatic calibre features a three-day power reserve, made possible by a bidirectional oscillating weight and stored in a single barrel. The watch comes with a tapered bracelet, a first in the Luna Rossa collection.

Both Luna Rossa timepieces are water-resistant up to 100m.
