The Luminor Perpetual Calendar, now in Platinumtech, represents Panerai’s dedication to advancing both function and form

The Luminor is the central focus at Panerai this year. Apart from a series of new and improved Luminor Marina in steel and titanium, Panerai is also introducing a special platinum alloy to pair with its 44mm Luminor Perpetual Calendar.

Composed of 95 per cent pure platinum, the scratch-resistant Platinumtech is 40 per cent harder than standard platinum, and weighs 33 per cent more than an 18-karat gold.

The cushion-shaped case with the signature crown-protecting device—originally designed for the Italian military to prevent water seepage into their timekeeping instruments—is topped with a blue sapphire crystal dial, offering a peek at the day and date discs below. Super-LumiNova X2 coats the hour, minute, and small-second hands, as well as markers, delivering a vivid green glow with a significantly improved luminosity than its predecessor.

For a perpetual calendar, the dial is refreshingly uncluttered and streamlined, showing only the essential information including a day-and-night and 24-hour GMT at 9 o’clock. The month, year, and leap year indications are on the caseback. Adjustments can be done with only one crown, even around sensitive transition periods such as midnight or end-of-the-month.

This is made possible by the P.4100 automatic calibre, which is also equipped with a patented date shock protection system to stabilise the date disc. To minimise wear-and-tear, the GMT spring has been redesigned—also patented—to distribute pressure across multiple contact points, ensuring smoother transitions of the GMT hand.
