Though rare, a handful of timepieces have been crafted in recent years to celebrate Malaysia. Hublot had a Big Bang made to commemorate Malaysia’s 60th Merdeka celebration in 2017. More recently, Panerai released a Luminor Malaysia Edition ahead of the first P-Day event in Kuala Lumpur. As Malaysia marks its National Day in two weeks—not to mention Malaysia Day on September 16— we revisit a few standout timepieces that have paid tribute to the nation, along with a couple of newer creations joining the lineup.

Hublot Big Bang Merdeka (2017)
Created to celebrate Malaysia’s diamond jubilee, the design was inspired by the colours of the Jalur Gemilang. The 44mm case was in blue ceramic, while a gold ‘60’ appeared prominently at 12 o’clock. The blue alligator strap also featured gold stitches. As an added tribute, the caseback was engraved with the word “Merdeka”.

Rendered in titanium and sandblasted for a rugged matte finish, the limited-edition watch was developed with input from its devoted Malaysian enthusiasts. Panerai’s first watch exclusively for Malaysia featured a military green sandwich dial and an engraving of the KLCC Twin Towers on the caseback.
