Christian Dior’s passion for vibrant gardens led to an award-winning timekeeping treasure

Dior is much more than a fashion house sewing fabrics into works of wearable art. It has, for years, skillfully translated its tailoring expertise in horology, creating brilliant (literally!) timepieces that are as coveted as its couture. This is finally acknowledged by the community of watch experts at Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) 2025 where it nabbed the Jewellery Watch Prize for La D de Dior Buisson Couture.

Conceived by Victoire de Castellane, artistic director for jewellery at Dior, the watch reaffirms its exploration of beautiful gardens with a watch that is as resplendent as Jardin Christian Dior in Normandy. From the careful selection of stones to their artful setting, La D de Dior Buisson Couture is all about beauty, colours, and sensuality, in which each gem acts as a delicate petal.

A triumph of artistry and technique, the rose gold dial is set with more than 1,000 stones that include rubies, tsavorites, and diamonds in brilliant, pear, oval and marquise cuts. The gemsetter expertly assembled them to create a sense of volume and depth, while keeping the metal framework invisible.

Fifty brilliant-cut diamonds also grace the bezel, while a flower created with diamonds and pink sapphires embellishes the crown. Bejewelled blooms even appear on the caseback.

The black velvet strap features a pink gold ardillon buckle set with brilliant-cut diamonds.

Time is displayed via off-centred hands that are almost imperceptible among the vibrant jewels.

Total hours of work? 450, with 150 hours devoted to gem-setting. The effort? Totally worth it as it’s akin to having a garden in full, glorious bloom on the wrist.
