Soothing and calming, blue is a timeless choice in horology

The following new watches demonstrate why blue is a perennial favourite with watchmakers and collectors.

Inspired by one of Andy Warhol’s most treasured watches, the Piaget Andy Warhol watch replicates the 1970s cushion-shaped case and embellishes it with one of horology’s most divine decorative elements, the Clou de Paris guilloché motif. The tiny, pyramid-like squares evoke the appearance of a diamond-set surface. The watch is complemented with a blue meteorite dial.

This retro-chic watch is a collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, which supports support the creation, presentation and documentation of contemporary visual arts, particularly work that is experimental, under-recognised or challenging in nature.

Available exclusively at The Hour Glass boutiques in Southeast Asia, the new Hublot Classic Fusion Elements II special edition comprises five new timepieces with different stone dials. One of the most striking from the collection is the sodalite, its deep blue recalls the infinite depths of the ocean. The watch comes in a 42mm titanium case with 18-karat gold crown and H-shaped bezel screws.

After last year’s Green Lum, Bell & Ross now introduces the Blue Lum for the BR-X5 watch. Luminescent elements typically appear on the time indicators, making them legible in dim conditions. However, the brand’s R&D team has also found a way to illuminate the entire case with LM3D, a photoluminescent composite material consisting of quartz fibres.
