The third and final chapter of Van Cleef & Arpels’ Treasure Island high jewellery collection takes us on an exhilarating hunt for precious treasures inspired by diverse cultures and historical periods

Every great adventure culminates in a final, dazzling discovery. With Treasure Island, Van Cleef & Arpels’ latest high jewellery collection, the maison has dreamed up a colourful narrative of exquisite jewels inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s legendary novel of the same name. Unveiled in Miami at a spectacular gala that Tatler attended, the collection unfolds across three distinct chapters—each capturing a different stage of the journey.

The first chapter, Adventure at Sea, celebrates the thrill of maritime exploration, with creations inspired by ocean waves, sailors’ knots, and the mysteries of the deep. The voyage then reaches land in Exploring the Island, where tropical landscapes, lush flora, and hidden marine wonders are reimagined in breathtaking high jewellery.

Now, the quest reaches its grand finale with The Treasure Hunt, the third and final chapter, where the promise of hidden riches is brought to life in a spectacular showcase of gold, gemstones, and intricate craftsmanship. Steeped in the romance of discovery, these creations draw from ancient treasures, exotic cultures, and the timeless fascination with lost riches.

“Here, the imagination is the limit,” said Catherine Rénier, chief executive officer of Van Cleef & Arpels, in an interview with media in Miami. “The treasure chest, of course, in our mind is going to be full of colours, full of stones, full of gold. And this is the symbolism we wanted to bring to life in the collection with multiple cocktail rings; large rings in yellow gold with coloured sapphires, emerald, and rubies mixed with each other.”

In addition to the myriad rings in this chapter, treasure also comes in other forms, like the Carte au trésor clip of a rolled up gold map, tied together with a twisted rose gold cord that has two pink and yellow gold tassels. Peek closer between the parchment’s folds and discover an engraved map with names of places such as Cape Tourmaline, Pearl Islands, Valley of Rubies, Sapphire Island, and Emerald Lagoon. To find the treasure, look to the ruby on the map that marks the location of the hidden chest.

“We wanted the collection to bring out the child in each of us, to bring back the memories of our childhood, of dreaming of treasures, thinking about adventure,” said Reiner. “And I like the symbolism of this treasure map clip, where it can be the treasure on a deserted island, but it can also represent your own treasure that you’ve hidden somewhere or collected through the years.”

Having delved deeper into the inspirations and stories behind the creations, it becomes clear that Treasure Island is more than just another beautiful high jewellery collection. It is an imaginative journey in which Van Cleef & Arpels pays homage to the spirit of exploration that has captivated generations—and will continue to do. The allure of this collection lies not only in its stunning craftsmanship but also in its ability to evoke a sense of nostalgia and childlike wonder.

“When you are a child, everything is possible. As a child, you dream of exploring the world and exploring different destinations, and this curiosity leads to the interest for the treasure quest,” said Reiner.

“Treasure can be stones and jewellery, but it also can be discovery and accumulating objects, or accumulating learnings and experiences. And it is something that as we grow, we tend to forget. But bringing back all of these memories of treasure hunting and curiosity and discovery is part of the inspiration of the collection. And I believe that it speaks to you—cross-gender, cross-cultural, cross-generation—and reminds you of your own treasure quest, whatever that may be.”
