The second chapter of Van Cleef & Arpels’ Treasure Island collection brings the lush landscapes and exotic creatures of a tropical island to life through masterful craftsmanship and innovative designs
Following the action-packed voyage of Adventure at Sea, the first chapter of Van Cleef & Arpels’ Treasure Island high jewellery collection, the journey now moves to shore with Exploring the Island. This second chapter invites us to discover an untouched paradise—one where lush landscapes, precious sea creatures and the myriad wonders of nature wait to be discovered.
Unveiled in Miami at a launch event Tatler attended last November, Treasure Island is Van Cleef & Arpels’ latest high jewellery odyssey, inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1883 novel of the same name. Presented in three distinct chapters—Adventure at Sea, Exploring the Island, and The Treasure Hunt—the collection captures the thrill of discovery and the maison’s mastery of storytelling through gemstones.

The unveiling of this collection in Miami provided a fitting backdrop—especially for this second chapter—with the coastal city's sun-drenched shores and turquoise waters mirroring the Treasure Island’s spirit of discovery and tropical allure. Guests were treated to an immersive experience that brought the whimsical world of Van Cleef & Arpels’ take on Treasure Island to life, complete with elaborate scenography and stunning jewellery presentations.
“Here we are very close to Van Cleef & Arpel’s enduring inspiration of fauna and flora,” noted the maison’s chief executive officer, Catherine Reiner, in an interview with media in Miami. “But we are going beyond our traditional expressions with [creations like] a palm tree, turtles, and seashells, and we are continuing the inspiration and opening up [new] doors for the maison’s universe.”
The palm tree jewel that Rainer mentioned is the Palmier Mystérieux clip, which is her favourite piece from Treasure Island for how it serves as a representation of the entire collection. Crafted in yellow, white, and rose gold, the clip features two palm trees, with the larger one bearing leaves of Traditional Mystery Set emeralds. Reiner shared that emeralds are “the most challenging stone for Mystery Set technique” due to their fragililty. Under the tree lies interchangeable motifs that can be attached one at a time, each representing the three chapters of the collection: a diamond boat, a sun, and a treasure chest—all gleaming in yellow gold.
“It’s a true symbol of the collection and my favourite piece, because it summarises the collection perfectly. You start with a little boat, then you move on to the sunset on the island, and you end up finding the treasure. It’s all in one piece. Everything is said—the three chapters, the Mystery Set technique of the maison, and the transformability,” Reiner explained. “It also shows how the maison managed to take inspiration from the story and then bring its own expertise and heritage into it.”

Reiner added that this chapter is a strong one in showcasing the maison’s Mystery Set prowess, with several more pieces featuring the technique such as the Coquillage Mystérieux clip. A bejewelled seashell is adorned with diamonds and Traditional Mystery Set buff-topped rubies, as well as pink diamonds and interspersed square rubies of various sizes. But this precious treasure hides another; the reverse side reveals a fairy sculpted in white gold holding an emerald. Fairies are icons of the maison and this impish one rests on a white cultured pearl, nestled at the heart of a coral reef in carved and hammered yellow gold.
With Exploring the Island, Van Cleef & Arpels celebrates the beauty of nature and the thrill of discovery, turning tropical landscapes and ocean treasures into exquisite high jewellery. But the journey doesn’t end here. Just as the adventurers of Treasure Island press onward in search of hidden riches, the collection’s final chapter, The Treasure Hunt, unveils a dazzling array of jewelled treasures—where vibrant gemstones, ancient influences, and the maison’s signature craftsmanship come together in a breathtaking culmination of the voyage.
