For us at home, our contribution to the Paris Olympics is spotting the best jewellery in the game

There’s always something to talk about at the Olympics: athlete victories, celebrity sightings, and sportsmanship—but, at least for us at Tatler, none more so than jewellery. It may seem frivolous or a hindrance, even, to wear jewels while competing but that has not stopped numerous athletes from sporting some dazzling looks.

Olympic champion gymnast Simone Biles, for one, took to the podium in a stunning three-dimensional, 546 diamond-adorned goat necklace. Jewellery at the Games has undoubtedly become the talk of the town from good luck charms to friendship bracelets or a nod to family, you name it—jewellery adds a personal touch to a look that transcends all occasions, even sporting ones.

Whilst it’s rare to prioritise finding jewellery pieces on show at the sporting event, here are some of the best stones and diamonds spotted at the Paris Olympics.

1. Simone Biles in Janet Heller

You’re going to want your own bedazzled animal after this. The Olympic Games may have added to her impressive medal collection, but American gymnast Simone Biles has more than just medals for bling. Winning two gold medals for her performances in Paris, Biles has become the most decorated gymnast of all time, rightly earning her the title of GOAT (Greatest Of All Time).

In fact, her feats are so celebrated, that Californian fine jewellery maker Janet Heller custom-made a necklace just for the athlete. The 3D goat pendant is adorned with 546 diamonds, reflecting Biles’s inspirational dedication and perseverance on and off the mat.

2. Cheung Ka-long in Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels

Fencing blade aside, there were other things that blinded spectators on the stands at the men’s podium ceremony in Paris. Gold medal-winning Hong Kong fencer Edgar Cheung Ka-long was all glowing with smiles while raising his country’s flag high at the podium, but eagle-eyed jewellery lovers spotted another shining presence–on the fencer's right wrist, a Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra bracelet in yellow gold set with red carnelian and a Cartier Love bangle of the same golden shade.

The historic Olympic Torch Relay saw many athletes and celebrity personalities take to the streets of Paris, and while notable names were featured, none left as much of an impression on the internet as BTS’s Jin. Just hours after the K-pop singer carried the torch, the internet was abuzz. The topic of interest? Fred’s Force 10 #GoBeyond bracelet.

The limited-edition wristpiece was designed as part of Fred’s collaboration with Special Olympics, a non-profit sports organisation that supports athletes with intellectual disabilities. With his anticipated appearance at the Olympics, Jin endorsed the meaningful collaboration, sporting braided cords in blue, red, and white alongside his torch-bearing moment.

4. Jasmine Paolini in Van Cleef & Arpels

Bracelets aren’t the only jewellery on site as Italian tennis player Jasmine Paolini wrapped a Van Cleef & Arpels mother-of-pearl Alhambra pendant round her neck. Along with her doubles partner Sara Errani, she claimed Italy’s first-ever Olympic tennis gold on August 4.

5. Noah Lyles in Prakash Sadhwani

American track star Noah Lyles wore a sparkling chain-link necklace on the track. The custom piece covered in various coloured and white diamonds accompanied the athlete to win his first Olympic gold medal at the men’s 100m event at the Stade de France.

6. Marta Kostyuk in Van Cleef & Arpels

Anyone who has said that jewellery doesn’t belong on the tennis court is mistaken. Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk states her claim to gold and diamonds with not one, but two Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra bracelets. The athlete’s curated stack included a Guilloché White Gold Vintage Alhambra bracelet, 5 motifs and a diamond-paved Sweet Alhambra, 6 motifs.

7. Wang Chi-lin in Fred

Specialising in the women’s 4 x 400m event, the athlete was decked in her country’s colours, complimented with green four clovers, the plant is sometimes termed: “The luck of the Irish”.
